Stationing in japan

Well I got my new orders today. I will be stationed in yokosuka for 3 years. I will be taking the wagon and both harleys with me. So while I'm there I plan to get everything possible for my car... and maybe a few extra of whatever I get. I'm hoping that I'll be able to bring back whatever car I buy while over there, but I haven't researched that yet...

So uh... what all wago parts should I look for while I'm there?

You could make a fortune shipping parts this way...

    Fixed.
  • Not looking for any wagon parts...but if you come across those "JDM" badges [beginner driver, etc] i'm looking for one that is green with a yellow butterfly in the middle. I can't find one over here.
  • I wouldnt bother taking your Wagon over, I can imagine it will be a MASSIVE hassle trying to get it registered as the Japanese government encourages you to have a new vehicle by making older cars very very expensive to keep on the road.

Plus there will be JDM wagons to choose from

i believe if he is stationed with the US that it will prolly be a lot easier.
and if he were to buy a JDM wagon, he wouldnt be able to bring it back with him (USDM fail)
  • did we just become best friends!!?? UMM YUP!!! jdm shuttle hookup please please please!!!

x2 FACT! unless you get a deal on the base...
  • i need a jdm tryp r integra rad support and black housing headlights

    plz thnx
    clean pm me for details
  • There are actually military laws and local laws about sending goods through the military post office. Be careful what and how much you send. There is a reason why I ignore all parts requests now.
  • I actually was asking what parts I should look for...FOR ME.
Thanks for the heads up Ragin! I know mil rules all too well.
  • just look for rare parts that youo will never find here in the states.
  • Don't forget your poor frozen neighbors to the north
We like JDM too and our money is green too.... and blue... and purple.

You gonna rent a C-5A? Cuz it sounds like the HCW wagon-heads have some orders of their own for ya!

Good luck with the move :)
  • Well don't send it through the military mail.

You can rent a container for less than $2000. Buy a JDM Type R for a couple grand and ship it over. Should be no problem on your military pay. That or just fill it up with rare parts and JDM engines. I think I would ship a 4WD DA so I could swap the drivetrain to a USDM chassis when I got home.

Yeah don't take your car man. Buy a car while you're there and have it shipped home in 3 years. Use it as a track car or part it out. Get yourself a Skyline, son!
  • I'd rather put your existing wagon into long-term storage and then buy another wagon in japan....then bring it all back with you when your done.
  • Thats what I'm faced with now... Looks very difficult to import my wagon to Japan with the milage and non stock motor. SO let me wagon rot for 3 years, or sell and find another when I get back... sigh.
On the other hand, I've always wanted an evo3. my wife is already searching for a mk4 supra. I also like the ek type r.
  • Just be warned, it wont necessarily be really easy to find the car you want. A lot of older cars have been exported from Japan (most to NZ until a few years ago)

Remember that if the car is over 25 years old you will be able to import it back to the US (Cali is 30years) so if you do find a wagon over there, build it up, and ship it back. It doesn't necessarily ever have to be registered until you are ready to PCS back to the US. I have two cars that aren't in either the German or US Military system which keeps me from having to pay either side right now. They might not be happy about it when I go back to register them so we will see what happens.
  • I just want my very own JDM Wife.... Can u ship me one???
  • Ok so the end word is that if you are moving from the states to japan you ARE NOT permitted to ship a car. Motorcycles yes, cars no. regardless of age, size, emissions whatever.
I'm already talking to a guy that is leaving there right around the time I will be ariving and he has a lowered honda stream. It looks like a 4 door EP3 SI. Looks like just a newer version of the wagon.
  • The Stream is pretty nice, we have them here in europe and a guy down the street has one.

I didn't think you could ship a car but wasn't sure if the rules changed or not. Got to love the military!
  • Oh god if you could get car parts in general and ship them to the states you'd make a shit ton. Personally I'd look for jdm rear interior, lower center consoles, arm rests all that cool jazz that we didn't get in the first place haha.

I would say that stuff would be easier to find in the states than in Japan now. I saw a Center arm rest on upgarage.com and it was about $125US+shipping. Like I have said above, A LOT of older Japanese cars are gone now, exported overseas or wrecked. Its only really the enthusiasts that have older cars now
  • yeah dude i'd get something fun like a toyota chaser or a silvia, maybe a 180sx or anything RWD and turbocharged...then start collecting old honda wagon parts and ship it back when you return for your car. bullbar, rear interior, front bumper, WHEEEELLSSSSS, random little accessories and whatnot.
  • ONe of my good friends has volunteered to babysit my wago for the time I'm gone =( good but sad too.
