edm/jdm factory roof rack install

Has anyone installed edm/jdm roof racks? If so, does it require to drop headliner and install brackets or just screw into the black channel on the roof?

    there isn't any on edm/jdm rack installs. mostly usdm and after market and various suv racks on the wagon. there are a few who did it and never said how they installed the racks.

    lol thats what i wasnt sure on. either way, i would still drop the headliner. no need to take it out though. when i installed my rack i just let it drop to about 6 inches or so, just enough so i wouldnt drill holes in the headliner, also so i wouldnt drill through the channels that cross the roof. its not too bad to drop a headliner, just a little time consuming.

    In this thread there are some pics of my wagon with an upclose pic of where the front of the bars should start. Remember that the rails do NOT sit directly into the center of the channel. If you drill holes here there is a very good chance for the roof to leak as water will sit in the bottom of the channel. Also whatever you do, do NOT cut them. There was a claim that the roofs are different from USDM to EDM/JDM which is totally ridiculous and that the rails had to be cut to fit the roof and antennae.

    Hey Rage, the link doesn't work anymore, whats up with that? ever since the switch over the old board archive is down? Well, I was looking at a few posts with links and all are not working. Any way I can help fix this or if possible you can re-up that thread onto here?

    I installed one last year and my method is working fine. Not sure on factory location, but i mounted my rails to fit the width of my basket. See my build thread for pics. Good Luck. Also, if you have the bolt cover caps and are willing to loan them to me to mold, lmk. Cant find them anywhere!

    Just let me know what pics you need and I can see if I still have them available. If I don't it will be some time before I can get pics as my car has been hidden away for the past couple of years.

    Here is a pic of the rack on my car, this is OEM install so this is correct.

    That's the pic Rage, however would you happen to have a picture from the front or side view, trying to make it as OEM as possible...or does it just line up with the antenna block? It looks to be lined up on the shorter side, the longer inside piece looks like it comes further out. Is that correct? Thanks

    Just went through all my photobucket pics and this is the only closeup I have, but if I can make it out to the wagon I will get some more pics.

    This spacing however should be the same all the way to the rear. I think if you have a straight set you will be able to lay it up there and it will line up.
