jhota's 1990 EE2 (updated Jan 10)

some of you remember this thing from the old board, i'm sure:
how my wagon used to look.
when i bought it (almost ten years ago now, damn!), it was white (Maaco paint job) with 13" alloys off a 1983 Accord. i wish i had pics of it back then, because it was a sweet little (stock) ride. the previous owner (who i've known for over 25 years now) had installed a short ram intake. otherwise the car was stock.
first upgrade was tyres and suspension. i put on a Neuspeed front upper strut brace and a set of 175/70HR13 Yokohama Avid MD-H4 tyres.
later, i installed the first Bosal Brospeed Civic header sold in the state of SC, with a custom-bent 2.5" exhaust with a Walker Dynomax muffler. around this time, the car got an RS Akimoto intake.
more suspension came along, too: a complete Tokico handling kit, springs and shocks, is what eventually stayed on the car.
then came 1989 Accord LX-i rims with 195/55ZR14 Dunlop SP8000 rubber. best tyres i ever ran. went through a set about every 10-12k miles, though. at over $500/set installed, it got to be a bit much. a Suspension Techniques rear upper tie bar was added, with a Z-Speed rear lower bar.
then came a deer and an F-150. not at the same time. the crappy Maaco paint was fubar'd. bonnet, right front wing, and upper radiator support came off a yellow-cream donor car. the deer did bad things to the a/c, too. eventually, all the a/c hardware came off.
one night myself, my roommate, his girlfriend and our crazy Italian neighbors decided to paint the car. so we did.
then the interior came out and a Corbeau Forza driver's seat went in.
eventually, i got tired of paying $500 every three to four months for tyres, so i picked up another set of wheels. scored a set of nasty-looking 15" Konig Reigns for ten bucks, and had them powdercoated gloss black for another hundred. wrapped them in Kumho KH11V tyres, and been rolling on them ever since.
now the car really looked like ass. funky coloured paint (peeling), Maaco paint underneath (peeling), and a nice new(ish) set of rims.
so i spent 14 bucks and painted it flat black. bought a quart of Rustoleum and some thinner, threw it in the spray gun, and shot it. next time, i'm using John Deere Blitz Black.
most recently (after the paint job), i installed a straight-through exhaust using a "Cherry Bomb" resonator and a Ractive "muffler." loud as fawk!, but fun. and i've been struggling with a MPFI swap (lots of isses, almost none actually swap-related). also popped on a Megan Racing front lower tie bar.
so, pics now:
some interest pics:
new (to me) D16A6 block, waiting to go to the machine shop:
since the D15 has never been opened and has over 260k miles on it, i decided to put together a new engine. i scored this block for free, and it's going in for a .25 mm overbore and hone (sleeves got a little rusty from previous storage - again, it was free).
target for the new engine is 130 - 140 whp, naturally aspirated. it's getting PM7/P29 pistons, lightened and balanced rotating assembly, and a VTEC head. OBD-1 conversion with Hondata too, most likely. but i'm going to get the bottom end built, then the top, then the fueling and management.
my workspace at home:
really looking forward to getting a lift installed in that bay - notice the raised ceiling?
garage is 3 bays wide and about 3 bays deep. and totally full of crap.
spec list:
1990 Honda EE2 wagon, 1989 production
260k+ mile D15B2
MPFI swap:
- D16Z6 manifold and throttle body
- 1991 PM6
- SOHC ZC distributor
- 1989 Integra injectors, fuel regulator, fuel rail feed hose and throttle cable stop
- CRX HF resistor box
RS Akimoto "cold air" intake
Bosal Brospeed header, no cat, 2.5" exhaust straight out the back
Accel ignition wire set
custom-powdercoated Konig Reign wheels with 195/50VR15 Kumho tyres
Goodridge braided stainless brake hoses
Neuspeed front upper chassis brace, ST rear upper chassis brace, Z-Speed rear lower brace, Megan Racing front lower brace
Tokico handling upgrade kit - lowering springs and Tokico "blues"
(almost) no interior - only front door panels, upper dash, front floor mats and front seats are left
Corbeau Forza driver's seat
Lucas 20/20 fog lamp (mid 1970's vintage pro rally car level lamp)
Hella driving lamp
Hella rear fog lamp

jhota can make the 140whp, i know he can.
it's possible. not even that far-fetched.

hell, people are making 300 whp with turbo setups. less than 1/2 that with all-motor should be cake.
so i'm waiting on the machine shop to tell me what the bore diameter is so i can order new pistons. i have a set of stock bore PM7's, but now i'm leaning towards a turbo. since i'm spending the money to make sure the bottom end is good anyway, i might as well get low-comp pistons to go in it, right?
so i think i'm going to shoot for around 200 whp or so.
damn, i need to learn how to make up my mind.
I have the same problem. Good luck!
but i think i'm going to use a T3/T4 with an external wastegate.
finally finished my light install (almost). need to tweak the mounting height on the pencil beam (needs to be mounted slightly higher so i can bring the aim up a little).
anyway:
