Engine dies after startup

Band Wagon
so every morning i get in the wagon to go to class and every morning it does the exact same thing. It cranks revs up to around 2000rpm then almost to 0 then back up to about 1500 then it just dies. It only does this when the engine is cold any suggestions as to what it could be would be appreciated. Also i did adjust the idling screw all the way out b/c it way idling around 2000rpm all the time and was consuming a noticeable amount of fuel and i put a breather filter on the top of the valve cover; im not sure if its the PCV or EGR.
Comments
Engine starts then stops immediately:
1. Loose of faulty electrical connections at distributor, coil or alternator.
2. Insufficient fuel reaching the carburetor or fuel injector(s).
3. Vacuum leak at the gasket between the intake manifold/plenum and throttle body.
