RT Carrier Bearings

So where's the best place to get these? Mine are shot, cheapest I've found them is http://www.g1parts.com/product_p/40520-sh9-003.htm, 79.27 each. Pretty friggin' expensive for a bearing, at least compared to the ones for my truck. Is that just because parts for the awd civic's are getting rarer?

Have a question. Are these bearings that hold up the driveline.(center supports)?their are 2 right? If not do you know where I can get them.both are shot and when i drive over 55 they start smojking.basicly the rubber piece is worn so the mount does not hold it anymore.I really want to keep my AWD so if you have any info ,that would be great.Thankx.
  • Yeah those are the bearings I'm talking about. Mine are so shot that the driveshaft bounces around in them (over 1" of play in every direction.)

The link I posted in the first post there is to the best place I've found to get them so far.

  • any pics of where they go?

is it just the rubber bushing or does it come with the mount as well.

Best pic I could find. You can see one there around the middle of the underside of the car. (not an actual RT wagon - this pic is a D16 swapped EF)

According to the exploded parts diagram I found from a honda dealer, it's the whole assy, mount etc. for that part number. (40520-sh9-003)

Its the whole mount with bearing.OEM From Honda.just bought 2 of them from the link Dj Hentai posted up.payed aroud $160 with shipping.I also checked around and it was the cheapest I found.not to many places carry them.
  • These have apparently been discontinued by Honda. Is anyone aware if there is an aftermarket company making them or have a lead to some old dealer stock for me to get a set?

Does anyone know where to locate replacements? Sorry for bumping an old thread but no point in starting a new one if this is here. The link above doesn't work.
  • Hay guys want to find carrier bearing its the weekend so can't call the company above tell Monday has any one found this shit any where any help would kick ass.really need to find this thing thanks.

I'm curious as well, mine are getting pretty saggy. I thought they had just gone through menopause.
  • Any help would be good thanks guys.

Mine is done now. Gonna have to remove the driveline until these are sourced. any help is appreciated! thanks
  • Wow sorry guys I haven't been on here in forever, since before the site move.

I ended up having my driveshaft rebuilt using common dana/spicer bearings by a guy in Colorado who specializes in off road stuff. No more unicorn Honda bearings - he made it fit the same mounts etc. but using bearing I can just buy off the shelf anywhere now.

Engle Wood Driveshaft in Engle Wood, CO is the biz. IIRC, it only set me back about $160 or so too.

This is good to know...do they do the u joints as well? I've been doing them myself and they are a royal pain in the ass.

Also I wonder if the place in Cali that rebuilds the VCs would do the bearings as part of the rebuild? http://www.civicwagon.com/showthread.php?17388-A-solution-to-our-viscous-couplers!
  • I'm not sure about the U joints but knowing the work they did on my bearing parts I'm pretty sure that they would be willing. Can't hurt to ask them.
  • True that. I know the biggest issue with the u joints is that there seems to be only one company that makes them. And if you want to use a different style that isn't a huge pain in the ass, you would need new yokes, etc.
  • Yeah I could see that, but once you have the new yokes installed and the whole thing set up and balanced it'd make life a lot easier down the road.
  • hell yeah it would...

Are the Bearings different from the 1997 CRV? or has anyone tried using them?

I found this on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Driveshaft-Centre-Carrier-Bearing-Honda-CRV-1997-10-Wagon-CR-V-RD-RE-Tail-Shaf-/131143086080?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AHonda&hash=item1e88bcb000&vxp=mtr#ht_34544wt_590832

even if the bearing is the wrong size, if the housing fits and keeps the same center line i thought maybe could use a different bearing but keep the rubber and metal mount
  • I don't think they'd work. AFAIK, the guys in Colorado that re-did my bearings did pretty much what you mention in that last line, but with the OG RT mounts. Not sure about the rubber, but it's there on mine.

I want to replace the rubber in there too. All the rubber on my car that hasn't been replaced is in pretty bad shape. I'll have to just take it apart soon and investigate for another rubber source

I did find this series of videos that were made on rt4wd driveshaft rebuild. Funny he did it for this forum but I found it googling

  • I have the part # for carrier bearing exact same as oem on my build thread.
  • SkeletorSkeletor Band Wagon
I saw your post with the bearing number on it, thank you. Does that Bearing come with rubber around it or do you use the existing rubber in the carrier bearing mount?
  • No just the bearing no rubber.
