4WD motor swap

plan on swapping the motor in my 91 rt 4wd soon. is it possible to drop the engine from the bottom or is it much easier to use a hoist?

the only brace i see under the car is in the front (like a normal civic/crx) which have been easy with my friends in the past to drop it from the bottom and roll the motor from under the car.

what did you guys do?

    Harbor freight lift ftw.

I've never submarined a motor before, but know guys who have w/o trouble. You can also rent a hoist for pretty cheap.

I've always pulled Honda engines out the bottom, but then I've always been spoiled and had lift access as well. A whole lot easier than doing it on the ground. I don't see why it wouldn't come out the top with everything detached below, engine and trans separate.

yeah ended up dropping it through the bottom. only issue is having jacks that go high enough. i ended up having to take the head off in order to fit it from underneath. also had to remove the radiator just to remove the a/c compressor and the radius arms that go from the core support to the front lca's
