Rev issues, I've done everything mentioned in other post.

Me & my mechanic are stomped, and I would like to asks kids on here for help...

I have a sohc zc block with a d16z6 head and crower cam but everything else is stock. Well I have header and exhast but nothing fancy: The motor will not rev past 2.5 - 3k anymore. It was running fine for like 6000 miles after the swap. Then one day I slammed on the breakes and this started. We fixed it once, but 500 miles later it started again. Once more after I slammed on my breaks in fear of running a red light. Their are no vaccum leaks to be found, fuel pressure is stable, compression is good we can even get it to idle fine. But as soon as we put more than a 5k rpm load during a test drive it goes right back to only reving to 2.5-3k. Anyone know what might be up that we may have over looked? I have tried new injectors, throttle body, Ivac's, (Air temp control valve, in some regions) a tps, coolent temp switches, water pump, thermistat, flushing air out of the lines, Firering order check, replaced obd1 to obd0 jumper harnest. Everything we could think of, anyone else have any ideals?

When you say it "wont rev past" do you mean it starts cutting out, sputtering, or what?

Try the Electric load detector. It shows NO code & drops RPM.

:? OR some how it could be brake related?Check the Brake check Valve & check for Vac leaks in the area.
  • I was gonna say the same, sounds like brake booster

Sorry I haven't replied untill now I've been rechecking everything you guys have mentioned.

Yes the car would die if I didn't hold in the gas even in neutral. But holding in the gas only made the car rev up to 3k then back down to 2k then back up to 3k

The problem has turned out to be the main harnest. The wires that plug into the IACV have corroded and rusted, at the base of the harnest where it enters the fire wall. Causing it to send improper signals to the IACV. I cut off as much "BAD" wire as I could and then clamped it back together, now it works again. But I still want to get a new harnest, who knows what else is wrong with it that I haven't found yet.

Will any 88-91 civic harnest will work? Wagovan parts are hard to find where I stay at now...
