  • I haven't changed the fluid on my rt4wd yet, but on my other hondas I remove the fill bolt and poor the oil in to the vss hole til it runs out the fill hole. Can the vss be removed easy on the rt4wd?

The service manual doesn't say anything about filling from the vss hole, and my assumption is that it would overfill the trans by a considerable amount. The check as per the manual is to open the fill hole and with a finger check if you can feel the oil level. If not fill it up until you can. In practical experience I've always overfilled it but let it drain out to the bottom of the fill hole with the car on a level surface.

That's what he said though. He removes the fill plug, and pours the oil in the VSS hole 'till it starts coming out the fill hole.
  • Fill hole on our RTs is an absolute pain in the butt. You'll need a hose and a funnel if you want to fill your trans back up.

I've done the VSS method on all my previous cars but on this car, it's a particularly small opening and very difficult to get to. It's right up against the mount. It's not really a hole but a port. And getting the VSS on/off is a pain also. I much prefer the later gen Hondas / Acuras. Instead of a little clip there's a bolt, and it's an open hole instead of a narrow port.

Not really what I wanted to hear, I guess I'll be digging out the ol' beer bong.

IMHO, the opening itself is no different than any of the other EF VSS's. There is a bit more of a clearance issue though with the configuration of the rear mount bracket, and as has been mentioned, if it's ne ver been out of the tranny, good luck getting it out.
