Problem replacing lower ball joints on 89-91 4WD Wagon -

I'm in the middle of what I thought was a simple lower front balljoint replacement, but when I tried to press in the new joint, I found it wouldn't fit ! Probably around .004 oversize, anyway no way in heck to press it in with a vise or drift. Do they make the replacements oversize for some reason or do I need to specify 4WD wagon when I buy them. Tried 2 different brand new joints, same problem. -Thanks !

strange, never heard this problem before. what manufacturer are you using? perhaps that's the problem... i just changed mine and they went in like butter, but mine's a 2wd. i am 99% sure they are the same as the rt's.

you could always just try to PRESS THE HELL OUT OF IT! hahah.

Well, I did some more checking. The replacement joints carry p/n 51220-SK7-013 and box is marked "Made for karlyn Industries". Box also has p/n 101-3789 which is the Beck Arnley number. I cannot find a spec in the shop manual for joint dia but there is an implied dia of 40.0 mm which is what the old joint mikes out at +/-. The new joints seem to be measuring more like 40.3 mm +/-...............time to go to a different store and see if I can find a different mfg. !
