now I need help finding some lower control arms!!

I got me Tein Coilovers from a JDM CRX but the rears are different then our wagons and from the EURo CRX's. The lower perch is different as you can see in this pic.

Now did my friend send me the wrong rear springs ( I would highly doubt it considering this is his job but it could happen) or can there be something different about the JDM versions. Euro and Wagon rears are the same. I am trying to figure out a way to make these work without compromising safety.

The fronts fit just fine without any problems but I am confused as to what these might have come off of.

Thanks

  • looks like they are from/for an '88. i bet a pair of '88 LCAs would let you fit those.

Yeah. Like jhota said. All you need LCA's from an '88.

well if you're friend has a hookup, get them exchanged. it'll much easier to just get the same year rear struts than to switch out the LCA to those from an '88. ask your buddy to get you another set from '89-'91

heads up to all noobies when doing suspension upgrades....always be year specific
  • Well before I start accusing him of sending me the wrong stuff I need to get some more info on JDM vs USDM crxs. I checked the euro shocks and they are the same as the US models. He had 4 or 5 sets of shocks for CRX and they were all the same as these. I highly doubt they were all for an 88 crx.

So for me it would be easier to get the 88's so does anybody have a set of 88's that they would be willing to sell me and ship to me??????

Does anybody think it would be possible to cut the lower perch off of both and weld them?????? It is welded now but I want to make sure first. THANKS

    no!

cutting or welding on shocks is very very bad.

heat + gas charged shocks = BOOM!

ITR rear LCAs are another option.

there are quite afew companies that make suspension for 88 LCA's ONLY. this is because the ITR's have the same style, and not worth manufacturing a different shock just for 89-91's. So you will just have to get 88 LCA's. You said you have an RT and i'm unfamiliar with those LCA's, i need pics.

You PM'd me about 88 LCA's... search locally first. The reason is that i have been getting bombarded with parts request only to have the shipping expenses make it uneconomical because i'm in canada. However, if you can't find any locally, feel no hesitation to contact me again.
  • Well I wouldn't weld them myself because of that reason. I just thought that maybe a good shop could do something like that. Like some welding requires you to weld just a little at a time as to not heat those parts not too much. Oh well.

Hey Quarters you can bet I won't be able to find anything over here for the wagon. I am right now the only guy to have a wagon. These are pretty rare here and the fact that I have two is amazing in itself.

I will get you some pics. I have had quite a few things shipped from Canada to my APO military address with no problems. Canada post works just fine. I had a T25 turbo sent to me for I think like 50 canadian dollars. So it wasn't too bad. I will send you those pics.
  • are these what he needs????

ps, sorry for the mile-long link, but HTML is off in here, so I can't replace it with something like "***"click here"***"...
  • Will these fit the wagons? If so I will go ahead and pick them up. Thanks for all your help guys.

they SHOULD fit, i know that they would fit any other 88-91 but you have the RT4wd and i'm not 100% about that rear suspension. someone needs to verify.

actually i am going to my wrecking yard today, i'll look at the rt4wd parts car and i will be able to tell you. i might have those LCA's for a cheaper price.
  • Sounds good Quarters!! I contacted my friend again and he said these are the right ones. So if you can help me out it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! I hate the look right now (low in the front and two feet of wheel well in the back) and am probably going to go ahead and buy some shocks off a CRX just until I can get some LCAs to fit these. Then I can lower the other wagon with those. THANKS QUARTERS and to everybody who posted!!!!!!!

    here is the pic
  • only real difference in the 2wd/4wd rear is the trailing arm. all else the same.
  • That is all I wanted to hear. So Quarters let me know what you want for a set if not no biggie I will buy the EBAY ones you guys linked me too.

    thanks everybody!
  • holy crap! your car is clean as hell under there!

yup verified, the ITR ones will work and are the same. I do have 88 WAGON LCA's, i also verified that. I can ship them to you but i would have to get them off and i am VERY short on free time these days. also the 88 wagon parts car has over 500,000kms on it, so i can almost be certain those bushings are toasted and siezed. thus making it damn near impossible to get them off in the yard, i would have to get the tractor and bring it into the shop to use the airtools/torch.

I would say if you want to pay the extra.. $20 or so and not have to wait for me, then please get the EBAY ones. I have been trying to be prompt with my shipments lately but it's just getting to hard with my schedual.

Sleep easy knowing that the ITR ones will work, along with any other US/CND model 88 civic/crx/wagon.

thats not true the dash is different from the 89/90 wagon and it has electric seat belts, different corner lights

what are you talking aboot? we are talking about lower control arms.
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
hahaha i saw that earlier too, and got confused.

    you alright there JDM?
  • No problem quarters. You did enough by verifying the ebay ones will fit. I know all about those damn bushings too. That is why I was wanting these LCA's mine are stuck to the bolt and I can't get it out without cutting it off too but this will let me just drop the whole shock/lca assembly out as one. Thanks again to all who contributed. Problem solved!! :D 8) :P  :!: :!: :!:
  • well I have written those ebay idiots three times and asked if they will ship the DC2 integra LCA's to me with no replies at all.

So can anybody help me find some aftermarket ones that will fit?? I found some other stock ones but they wanted 80 bucks and some ridiculous amount to ship them to me and figured if one of you guys could point me in the right direction in finding some aftermarket ones that would be great.
  • quartersquarters Council Member
i am in Minniapolis for a show (Built To Spill), once i get back to Manitoba i'll see about the ones on my 88 wagon, perhaps the bushings aren't seized. that would be a miracle.
  • I was searching around and came across these:

    http://www.passwordjdm.com/product.asp? ... &PT_ID=464

maybe they willl ship to you...
  • hmmmmm the link isn't working for me.

My buddy in Japan said that I would need the Japanese CRX LCA's so I guess they didn't change over there.

I will try the link again jpciii. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me.
  • quartersquarters Council Member
    not working for me either.
  • I dunno, guys. The link is working for me.

Basically, www.passwordjdm.com has "JDM ITR Rear Lower Control Arms" on "Blowout sale" for $50.

  • These guys don't want to be bothered with shipping to my military address either. This is getting aggrivating. How hard is it to take the box to the post office. Well back on the hunt.

    Thanks for trying JPCIII

    8) 8) 8) Men in Black are here :!:

    8) I'm pretty sure you CAN weld the shock using TIG or MIG welding.Go talk to a weld shop or one of your military buddies in the welding dept.

    8) 8) Getting the 88 LCA is EASY  .All the JDM CRX Tein's your buddy has are for '88.Here's the EASY part. Any '88 Civic (CRX,HB,Sdn & Wgn) LCA WILL W0RK.

    8) You could order a new one from the Honda Dealer @ around $80.
  • Well my buddy is now trying to source me some lca's from Japan. I don't have too much trouble finding the lower lca's just trying to find somebody to ship them.
