Check engine light help

My engine light comes on going up steep hills. Actually its just one particular hill. Rarely any others. I live on a mountain and she goes up it no problem no light either. No sputtering or anything. Once I top the hill I turn the key off and back on and the light goes off. I'm getting one flash like it's the O2 sensor. I replaced it when I first bought the car to make the light go out. This has been going on about 2 weeks now. I thought about replacing the sensor again, I figured it should have lasted longer than 7 months. Any suggestions? Thanks

Depends on the sensor. Some of the cheaper 25-30 replacements have tendency to have higher failure rates than some of the better or OEM sensors. I've had some of the Bosch OEM style sensors go out after a couple weeks.

Usually the ECU sensor doesn't lie.

o2 sensor code doesnt nessesarly mean you have a bad o2. Its telling you your running way to rich or lean. Probbably dirty injectors or fuel filter. Also what do your spark plugs look like?
  • O2 sensors will fail prematurely if your engine isn't maintained properly. Burning excessive oil or coolant, running rich or lean for an extended period of time will kill the sensor. Exposing the sensor to chemical cleaners will also kill it.

Before replacing the O2 sensor you should test it with a multimeter and check all the wiring to verify that it is indeed the problem.
