Fuel Economy?

What is everybody getting? We got 37.7 MPG on the last tank driving on mostly rural 2-lane highways. Seems really good to me since the EPA MPG is 31/35 for this '91 2WD wagon with a 5-speed. :D

If you measure your fuel economy using different units:

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this. :?

Just over 34 with the DOHC ZC in a Shuttle RTi, running on 98 octane.
  • US gallons? That's pretty good. :)
Mine was with 87 octane (R+M)/2. Or about 91-95 RON octane.

they sell 98 octane over there?
the highest we got here is only 92.
    :(

Yes but your octane is MON and ours is RON - 98 RON is roughly the same as about 94 MON i think.
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
roughly around 27 for me. but i have a heavy foot.
  • I get around 25-30ish I suppose. It really depends on how I drive. I've never really mesured it exactly, but thats what I figure I get.
  • In August I did a roadtrip of more than 3,000 kms (about 1800 miles) and spent less than $200 US on gas. I remembered being impressed with this.

Also, I was recently told that if I switch out the stock twin injectors with the CRX quad injectors will I get even better fuel economy.

    Can someone corroborate??

We actually use an average of RON and MON over here.

going to mpfi, possibly...but I think it depends on the ecu and the program, if you decide to chip it or???

I'd like to see what an HF setup in a wagon can do. Personally I don't beleive the transmission gearing may have enough umphh to get the wagon around but 30+ mpg sounds good in its stock form

I only get 220 miles to a tank of gas so I am at the low in this poll!!

I've done calculations on the HF in the past.In the Wagon it'll probably get 41/45+ mpg .Higher if you use a 49State tranny. Not good for racing, but it'll have enough umphh to get around though you'll need to downshift 2 gears to do it. :?

    i am getting 33mpg.

mixed driving. highway/rural/city. sometimes 'spirited' driving is invloved.

DPFI - MPFI swap, DX tranny. 89 octane.
  • Puddin gets a little over 34mpg around town and almost 37 on the interstate doing 70-75mph. I keep the 13inch tires inflated to about 46psi and don't get agressive with the gas pedal. I rarely rev it past 3500. If I took a trip on back roads and averaged 55, I think that I could get 40mpg... never actually took it on a back-road trip before.

34-38 in my 87 awd wagon. the great gas mileage is awesome, but the lack of power sucks assholes. can't wait till i put my d16a1 in!

i had a 90 civic HF i was clocking about 32-34 mpg but i had a bad TPS so it ran a lil funn im sure it would have hit 40+ but i sold it on ebay before i had a chance to fix it.
  • i get 30 - 32 in town. but i've got a lead foot.

    MPFI D15B2, DX trans.
  • man i really love my wago now.. i get 40+ all day, everyday! I drive almost 50 miles a day and fill up once a week. I run on 109 octane and pay 1.99 a gallon.. gotta love corn
  • Hee, hee. Running on electric, so I'll have to do some conversions to figure out how far the energy in a gallon of gas (burned at the power plant) gets me. More than 60 miles, surely.

I don't know how you guys are doing it??

I have a '91 RT4WD, with 160K miles. I get 24.5 mpg around town, but have gotten 22mpg if I'm slammin' gears. So far I get about 27.5-28 mpg on the highway at 75-85 mph, which again, is spinin' the motor.

I live and drive in New England (the northeast USA). I drive mostly in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont (NE is also Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, as well). The roads around here are hilly, twisty, rough, and in some areas crowded, with traffic, stop and go, etc. (and stormy too, we have a thunder storm going right now at 2:45 pm in fact).

The car is new to me and I'm not done making the thing right. Also, I must admit that I am "researching" the performance characteristics of my wagon (in the interest of science), so I'm spoolin’ up the motor pretty good at times, more than anyone that was interested in gas mileage ever would.

Still, I think my mileage is low. I had hoped to hit 30mpg on the highway at least. I’m gonna run some more injector cleaner through the rig, change the timing belt, set the timing, etc. before I bitch.

Well my wagon is a 2WD 1.5 liter Manual and Im averaging about 36 MPG if Im not beating on it.

    Hey Wagonist,

Good to hear from you. I was following your progress on that restoration, it seemed like you had big plans for that wagon. Then I thought you said you were selling that car?

Your wagon gets 36 mpg and you're gonna sell that rig? No way!

I set my mom up with a FWD Civic wagon in '89, and she got 35mpg (that was EXCELLENT mileage in those days, still is). Even when I drove her car I got over 30mpg. Her wagon was a white 5sp just like yours. Your car made me think of her.

Mine is a RT4WD and something is wrong (could be my foot pegged to the floor, ya think???). I know other people that have had the same RT4WD wagons, they claimed 34+mpg.

I'm looking into it. My GMC pickup truck gets 14mpg, so I'm not complaining.

I'm gonna look you up one of these days, especially If I need any machine work done.

    Spike
  • i had a real time AWD with a D16z6 swap
    SOHC Vtec
and i got 32 i was very proud of that given the car and the engine

Not sure if you directed this towards me? But if no one else in my area is interested in my wagon by early spring then I will surely keep her. I love this beast and its very much my style. But there was major issues with household and my business and I thought that sacrifices had to be made to keep them both.

Fortunately enough my inlaws took us in so we could save money for another place to live and so I could keep my dreams alive business wise and such.

Im hoping to break into the 9's next year with our H22 Turbo EG next year and hoping for low 10's in my CRX. Also Im building up my 98 coupe as another daily driver JDM style. Everyone around me thinks Im crazy, but my wife understands that this is what I love and that this is how I show people what Im capable of doing for business.

    Hey mvm,

Yeah I was talking about you, sorry for the wrong tagline.

I know how it is with family, business, etc. pulling you in different directions. I work for myself as well, sometimes this can suck. You hang in there Bro, chase you dream.

Hold onto that wagon too, if you can. I enjoyed your posts. Smart, economical, restorations by a pro make for good reading. Plus, it's good for your business. If I need machine work, I'm heading up to see you.

    Talk to ya!

    Spike,
Thanks again. I definately hope to do business with you. Keep in contact. :D
  • back on topic...

Spike, your car is getting what the 4-wheel drive models are supposed to get... mid 20's.
  • My 91 4WD with the Jackson racing supercharger gets 25-27 in mixed driving, and has hit as high as 34 on a run that was all at about 50 MPH. I rarely get 30 or better though. Low of 23 has been repeated a few times in city driving. I don't hammer it, so it could be possible to do worse if I stayed up on boost a lot.
Good thing we have cheap gas in NJ ($2.12 for 93 octane) ..its the only thing cheap here.
