What a mess!(collapsed coilover)

New Wagonist
So i had a buddy of mine come to me one day with his wagon telling me it was riding rough and he had some weird clunks.. yada yada yada... He just bought this wagon 2 weeks previously to. So we jacked it up and when i saw what the previous owner had done to the suspension i was horrified... my jaw hit the ground. So i immediately told him to go out and buy some new coilsleeves, and decent front/rear camber kits. well 2 weeks down the road we finally got the time to put them on and dial everything in.
So we started in the front were both sleeves were pretty much collapsed... a total cluster $%#&.
The drivers side
The passangers side
In with the new in the trash with the old!
So we buttoned up the front new coilover sleeves, and front camber kit. it looks so much better now!
We moved to the rear and i was glad that the sleeves in the back were still intact.. so we swapped in the new sleeves and threw on the rear camber kit. dialed it in as much as possible and it looks solid.
Overall on the first drive impressions 110% better ride quality/firmness no more bottoming out or slamming its awesome

In NZ if your springs are not captive when the car is jacked up (like the rear is there) then your car will be ordered off the road until it is fixed and had a re-inspection.
Reason being is that if the tension is taken off the spring (going u a driveway etc) and the spring falls sideways then when the tension comes back on it will be crooked and case something to bend/break.
Also for cars that dont have the spring around the shock then the whole spring could fall out of the car
Also we must have the coilover sleeve either screwed or preferably welded to the strut to prevent it moving
In most of my state (Wisconsin) there is neither an inspection, or emissions testing. That said, I highsided my wagon a couple weeks ago making a u-turn to save a turtle and my left rear coil became totally unsprung. When the car settled back down, the coil cut into the strut dust cover and got hung up. I had to totally disassemble the strut/coil combo and hammer off the wedged dust cover. All while on the side of the road. I can't wait until I remove my coil sleeves and go to a full coilover. I was tempted to just order springs to have on until I order coils...thats how much I dislike the sleeves.
just saying
Looks like HIS shit got replaced lol... yes with more craigslist/ebay shit
Hes a HS student and spent his whole paycheck on them :P well see how long it lasts
Im thinking about giving him my skunk2 sleeves when i got Koni's but well see...
Now thats some good info! lol thanks i would of never know that
looks like i got some more work to do hahaha
Thanks for that. So the reason why it's off centre then.
Seems wierd because some are centred and some are not. I suppose it makes a differnce if you have it uber low?
I thught it was so instead of fitting like this O__O you could fit this like:
___O
O
If you had a very big drop.
I never thought about putting it like that! But i do know when my car was stupid low, even like 0__0 I was still hitting it! Also another thing that happened was the top part of rear swing arm punched a hole through the inner fender into the car and you could see the plastics inside.
