DPFI mini me question?

Hey I've searched everywhere and can't really get a straight answer..
I've got a d15b2 (dpfi) in my 91 wag and have a z6 head laying around.
my questions are;
would i be able to run that head (for a little compression bump) and not run vtec for now to prevent detonating with my dpfi?
also, what modifications would i have to make to make my DPFI dizzy fit on the z6 head?
i have everything for the mpfi swap laying around except the PM6 so i have to wait for that..
P.S. i don't need to be told to do the mpfi.. i WILL DO IT but am waiting on the common problem of needing the money ha ha
any help would do
thanks in advance, :D
Torey

I'm pretty sure you need a z6 distributor and plug wires, z6 valve cover, z6 timing belt, y8 headgasket, and a PM6 to complete the whole mini-me swap (minus vtec)..... You can't use the D15 distributor because it has no crank angle sensor. DPFI distributors/ECUs will NOT work on D16s.

Yes they do, Peterpanwagovan has a d16y8 in his wagon with DPFI and pushbutton vtec. It just isnt that quick without the right fuel and airflow.

It'll run OK with the PM5 (DPFI) ECU. You need to remove the oil restrictor in the deck of the block between #2 and #3 cylinder or else the head won't get enoug oil. It's as simple as threading a wood screw into the hole on the restrictor, and then pulling it out. Sometimes they can be wedged in there pretty tight. I suggest one of those black phillips head drywall screws (#6 screw, I think).

You can make the distributor work by cutting the ears in the right place. You may end up with only 1 bolt holding it in, or if you get creative, you can make 2 or all 3 bolts actually hold the distributor. Obviously the top ear on the distributor will line up correctly. It's the other 2 that will be off.

How will you do the Vtec thing with the PM6? I suggest you either look at getting a PM9 (OBD0 auto D16A6 ECU) and have it converted to Vtec (1 wire Vtec), or consider going to OBD1 with a P28 or converted P06 ECU.

    Thanks for the input guys..
I was planning on running a vtec controller.. but as always things change.
i think i might just wait for the money to do the MPFI.

I would wait, trust me it would so be worth the mpfi. It's a HUGE upgrade!

So, how would a B2 mini-me perform? With MPFI, proper ecu...

    Versus a B7, Y7...

Just curious. Heard on other forums that there are little gains from this swap. What do you guys think?

    Sorry for the thread jack.

It's not bad at all, supposedly the b2 has a fairly weak bottom end compared to a b7.
  • there's nothing wrong with a step by step build. if this is your daily driver most likely you wouldn't have the time to do it all in one day anyhow... it will run just fine as dpfi. now in my opinion, don't waste time with a vtec switch... in the end it will only run slower and the whole drive and flip switch stuff is disturbing. vtec ecm's have completely different fuel and timing maps... oh and im pretty shure b2 and b7 internals are identically weak, good news is a na b2 b7 if in sound condition will take anything you dish out. with identical hp #'s as the 1.6
