Auto-x, road race guys?

Has anyone removed their front sway bar? (on the wagon of course)
I have heard before that doing so will benefit in better handling because the front sway bar is there to prevent oversteer.
I know other Honda guys have done it with before but would it help out our top heavy wagons.
wagon will not be a daily so no disadvantage there.

If you add a beefier rear bar (something like Suspension Techniques), along with a thinner bar (HF) or no bar, it should help in autocross. I go the HF front/ ST rear on my CRX and it seems to help rotate around cones easier.
  • Whats the pros/cons of running a HF front vs. no front bar at all?

Front HF bar will still give you a bit of understeer.

Read the Sway Bar section in the following link:
    Sway Bars on Wgn.

Run NO front bar.Just vary the rear bar size to balance the Wgn w/o the added weight & front bar R&R(a big hassle).

The advantage of running a front bar is traction off the corners. I ran my supercharged EF with the HF front bar and the ST rear 22mm bar, and had great traction. This is partly because the front bar helped to keep the front of the car level, which in turn kept the contact patch of the front wheels closer to flat. Another consideration is whether or not you have an LSD. Without it, you most definitely want a front bar as well as a rear bar. If you get too much weight transfer off the inside wheel in a turn, you won't be putting any power to the ground (can you say "one tire fire"?). The front (as well as the rear) sway bar helps huge to put down power.

Are you planning to drive your wagon to events or trailer? The reason I ask is because the short time I went without a front bar, I remember the front liking to track more on ruts and bumps, even on what appeared to be smooth highway. When I put on the HF bar, this helped eliminate that, and still help corner better than having the stock sway bar. Just one man's opinion though and this was on a CRX, maybe someone with specific experience can say whether they've seen that occur as well.
  • trailer... the closest (nice) track is 250 miles away.

It has a Laguna Seca "corkscrew"
    2 mile long track
