Curious as to why? It's so easy from underneath.

I've tried to drive it on ramps but the ones I have the front clip hit before the wheels do.

I also have a gravel driveway now adays.... dirt+jackstands=Darwin award.
  • Im sure you could do it. I have done it once before but it was a b series. (same location)

No, I have long arms and big hands too so it wasn't that bad for me. (6'5" wingspan)

Even if you could reach it, you'll never be able to apply the required torque/twist onto it that is needed if the gasket sticks to the block. Try putting a small ramp of 2x6s leading up to the bottom of your steel ramps. That'll get the front end up that little bit more so it clears till the tires reach the ramp.

    Something like this:

    brilliant!

thats what i needed!! thhahahahah ftw!

i've tried a number of times to get my hand on it...i can, but just as you say not enough torque to get the thing off....

I usually did the filter in my wagon and my wifes CRV from the top. Once you get it off this first time with a filter wrench or whatever, remember it does have to be he-man'd on there. Smear oil around the gasket and on the threads before installing the new filter and you should be able to get it off easier the next time. No need to overtighten an oil filter, hand tight is good!

(Not saying you were the one to overtighten the filter in the first place, but I've had to drive a screwdrive through some oil filters to get the leverage to loosen them from the previous owners overtightening.

I only hand tighten my filters...but since i've had to take the thing to a mechanic to get the oil changed (much to my embarrassment) who knows.

I'm really not sure a wrench would fit in there...

so far the only people who've said they've gotten it from the top are talking about 2 different motors. I think Jaker has been in the same situation as I am in....

I dont get it. Why would you change the filter, and not the oil??? If youre changing the oil, youve obviously gotten under the car to drain the oil... So?

OK maybe I'm just skinny but i can slide under the car and do an oil change without jacking it up at all...
Just reach up, twist filter or use removal tool (a leather belt).
