Pet barriers (oem retrofit?)

I love my dog to death, but she's an energetic pup (pit/lab mic) and we're about to have a baby. We're still going to take our pup with us everywhere we can, but i'd like to find a good solution for a barrier so the baby isn't getting trampled haha. I was thinking about one of the accord wagon retractable mesh barriers, but wasn't sure if there was something that works better for the wagons. Any advice? Anyone swapped in anything aftermarket that works well? I see quite a few aftermarket solutions that'd work, but i figured Id check here first.

get a dog crate? 20 bucks at target.
  • I'm mostly just wanting to see if anyone has modified anything OEM to fit. It's a big pup and I'm not going to carry around a dog crate :P

    $68 is too much?

You better throw out the idea of buying something, and take to your garage and build your own...
  • that's actually not a bad one. i've seen similar ones go for around 40 and figured i'd end up with something like that in the worst case. i think i'm going to go junkyarding this weekend and try to retrofit a accord wagon one. less than 100 bucks isn't bad at all, but OEM and cheap is even better :)

Maybe you could screw/weld in some small hooks/loops on the sides slightly behind the rear seat. Then just attach bungee cords going across. Prob cheapest option, but wouldn't deter the dog if he REALLY wants to get up there, and would look cheap.
  • haha yeah she's a persistent little bugger when she wants to be. i think a mesh one would work though and those are lik 15 bucks max

 Got a idea.Get some poles & stick them into the head rest holes, then tie strap a few of those wire rack panels from one of those wire rack shelves. They kind of look like the ones in your pic.

  • i didn't make it out to the yards this weekend...had a lot of things come up unexpectedly, but i'll get out there ASAP and get something figured out. worst case scenario i get one of these for around 30 shipped
