homemade lower center console

Well here you go. Say it sucks or like it I just thought I would see if I could make one real quick. I do have a real lower console but needed another place to place a dvd player and not have to cut up my stock one. Made this in about an hour. I plan on putting something under the dvd player just don't know what yet. I have one of those 1 din pockets from a JDM Nissan and thought that might be cool under the dvd player to give me some pocket space. Maybe tweeters who knows. Here are the pics.

    :D Looks great :!: It'll give inspiration to other's.
  • That does look really good. How about you make me one?
  • Indeed. Reasonably simple, very clean looking, and you could leave the stereo where it was and use the console simply for cupholders.
  • The cup holder might get in the way of the shifter though. My JDM din pocket looks just like that without the cup holder. Plus I made another arm rest with a cup holder in it again.

It definately needs something under the dvd player but I will think of something.
  • I could make another one if you wanted. I only have the black material though and you would have to promise me you won't mass produce these :D 8)

    No, it does not suck...

In fact, I think it looks quite good !!

You obviously have good wood fabrication skills. What is the grey material you used to give the finished look? Is it glued on?

Anyhow, it certainly solves the "cupholder quandry".

Keep up the good work !!
  • The material is used to also cover sub boxes. I do my own stereo installs and every once in awhile for somebody else. I like wood, it is easy to work with and isn't as messy as fiberglass. You can't get as fancy with wood as you could other materials but I like it.

Here is some door panels I made for a Super Beetle. Same material as I have a HUGE roll of it.

Here is some more wood work in the back of the super. I decided to personalize the wifes Beetle by cutting her name into the back. The stained piece has entered the fireplace as I didn't like it AT ALL after I finished it.

  • I am sure the cupholder would work where I have the dvd player. I need to check though but I don't really need a cupholder but for you other guys who keep trying to figure out a way for cupholders this should work.
  • hellz yeah! a din sized cup holder... I wish I knew of these sooner.

btw, your console looks great. 8)
  • I like it. Reminds me of Datsun 510 days.

It still needs some tweaking as the radio hits a metal bracket in the back. You can see as it doesn't fit quite flush yet. Easy fix though. I took some pics with a cd to show you guys how close it is. It is close but I have MP3 limiting me to how many times I would have to change CDs. The top one won't get in the way at all.

nice job man really good looking. i see you wrapped the whole center console. so whos got dibs on the stock 1? NJ you better get it.
  • This one still needs some work so the stock one isn't up for grabs just yet.

Yeah I decided to go ahead and wrap the whole console to give it a more finished look. Plus I plan on adding some more wrap to the door pods (I made another set), and the rear deck lid is finished and wrapped in the same. So hopefully the whole system will be in tomorrow. I got JVC 6x9 (5 way), JVC carbon component set, the dvd player, and I am thinking about throwing the new kicker sub I have in the back. We will see.

Thanks to all the nice compliments on the console.

If the center console does go it will go to NJ for the right price  :D
