D15B2 head on D15B7 block

I found a block for my car.

I want to put my 89 d15b2 head on a 95 d15b7 block.

Can this be done with no modification? Should just be bolt on, time, plug, and play?

Please help fast. I'm picking it up in an hour.

Yea it should be near identical. The timing cover may be slightly off and make sure you get the VC and VC hardware, I don't think they are the same.

what VC and VC hardware? what does that even mean? The only difference I found in anything was there are 2 plugs on the back of the block instead of 1 like on the b2.

VC=Valve Cover. I believe the plugs you are referring to are the knock sensor. If you are replacing just the short block, block and rotating assembly, on your wagon that was originally equipped with a b2, you should be ok.

oh i gotcha. I thought it was the knock sensor but manual never named it or went into detail about it. I have one that is the same with a single prong coming off the back so that one won't be an issue. However the second has 2 prongs, what do you suggest doing with this one?

The 2 prong is quite likely the temperature switch for the rad fans. The single prong is the oil pressure switch for the dummy light on the dash. According to my Helms, the B2 should have the 2 pin plug for the rad fan switch, whereas the B7 will most likely have that plug in the thermostat housing just below and slightly behind the distributor (not the one that goes into the head, but into the thermostat housing). Just extend the wires from the back of the block around so they'll reach the plug on the thermostat housing. It doesn't matter if you mix the 2 wires up. It's just an on-off switch.

There is no knock sensor on either the B2 or B7.

wow thank you. that was extrememly helpful. is it possible if I cant rewire one of them that I can wire it to a manual on/off switch?
  • JakerJaker familEE
For sure. The OEM switch is simply an on/off switch that is turned on and off by temperature. If you wire in a regular toggle switch, you just make it a manual on/off switch. Just don't forget to turn it on when you're stuck in traffic.

one last question, i promise. Is your best bet on the double pronged or single pronged plug for the radi. fan?

Thank you for all the help by the way.

i apologize, you said the double pronged... please ignore that. thank you for all the help it made things a lot easier.

I dropped the motor in. Rid the engine of all tiny leaks. Blew smoke for a three block length behind me. A lot of people were staring, one guy even started clapping... anyway, after the piston rings set, she blows some nice healthy black smoke. Timing must be off just a little but anway, my shaggin wagon is back on the street. I'd like to add that I replaced the wipers to help fend off all the various panties that fly at me while I'm driving.

I want to thank everyone for dealing with me, a wagonoob, asking so many questions. This is a great forum with a bunch of great wagon enthusiasts.

    Pics to follow. :)
