Subframe fitiment for thought

So I was curious how similar a rt/wagon rear/rear subframe is to a front/rear subframe.
I removed the rear/rear and compared the two. To my surprise the LCA mounts are located in the same position in width, forwards and backwards.

keep in mind this is a idea to install a engine (insert k20, j32, b18, whatever) in the back while using a stock wagon trailing arm and hubs.

What I have in mind is to use this subframe to make it a hell of a lot easier in the rear of the car. The other two mounts could be welded to a outer rollcage frame.

now I will have to cut out the spare tire area to really see how well it fits and of course remove the fuel tank to reduce the possibility of a fire.
Should I move forward and cut it out?

dam bro theres realy no going back.... u got all the tools time and money?
  • I have all the time in the world, the wagon is just a project/fun car to throw money at. (bit of money at a time) It could take a year or two and it wouldn't really matter much.
It really does look almost way too easy. I may just want to find a cheap run down rt and just try it out with a d series. I would hate to cut up my perfectly good wagon.

so can the front cross member bolt into where the rear cross member bolts into? I think yer on to something here
  • thats exactly what I am saying.... the two rear bolts on the front crossmember doesn't line up but you could fab a mount to weld to the frame easily. The front two bolt holes line up perfectly.
  • heres what I mean....sorry my paint skills kinda suck

That would be the front/rear crossmember that you bolt a rear motor mount to. Top of picture is towards front of car.
