Brake backing plate questions

Hi all,

I've got a few questions regarding the rear backing plates on our wagons with drum brakes. When changing out my brake shoes, we noticed the brake backing plate on the rear passenger side of my wagon was torn and a big chunk of it was missing.

1. Are they interchangeable from 2wd to rt4wd wagons as well as from year to year?

2. Do hatches and sedans have these brake backing plates and if they did, would they work in my rt4wd wagon? (from a part # search on hondaautomotiveparts.com, I'm thinking they aren't as I didn't see that part listed.)

3. Are these backing plates available from any of the auto parts stores? I guess no.

Thanks in advance!

James

turbo_teg, no need for those backing plates in case you were still looking. We ended up using some we had taken from another civic and modifyingit to fit. Thanks anyways!

Ok, sounds like a plan. I'm hoping these backing plates work fine but good to know you may have them... just in case!! Thanks again!

    More info:

The 88-00 Civics all use the same rear drums and shoes. ANd hubs and bearings and all the stuff in them. However, the actaul spindle, though bolts to all trailing arms...has two differenet bolt patterns for the 4 bolts that bolt the spindle to the drum's backing plate. Why, no one knows. So within the 88-00 Civics, there are two, Not sure which has which. just random crap I found out.

i know with a name like yours i shouldnt be questioning you but im pretty sure RT's had larger rear drum breaks compared to all other fwd civics at least in the 88-91 years.

Civic Wagons, be it FWD or RT4WD had larger rear drums to the rest of the Civic line-up.
