Help!? Power steering!

Okay. 89 Honda civic Wagon.

I took out my power steering unit, seeing as it wasn't connected since it rolled off the lot anyways. So I also took off the lines and the pump ( i believe its the pump) back behind the motor on the frame. I got it out and everything, but when I turn the wheel left/right, fluid spills out. No big deal, it won't have power steering after the swap either...

...So my question is... Do I have to plug up where the pump was under the car? Or does the fluid that sits in the axle like tube lubricating the tie rods? Am I fine just letting the rest drain and having a small hole there?

It just crossed my mind because I've never seen a set up like that and the tie rods lead into that axle like looking pipe that runs across the bottom. I'm sorry I can't think of what the tube is called.

Please... ANY and ALL feedback is appreciated.

Thanks guys.

If pics are needed, I can take some...

i believe this has been discussed a few times here and there, all i got out of it though was that people ran a hose connecting the two ends. i do not remember if they left fluid in there or not..

other people will need to answer this for you

Okay so I have to loop the two hoses into eachother that used to run to the power steering cooling system. The problem is that the two lines are different diameters. Any ideas on how to loop a hose w/ two different ends?

The pump is the bit attached to the front of the engine. Leave the bit on the steering rack alone, leave it full of fluid and loop the holes.

The bit on the steering rack has already been effed with to remove the cooling unit. I cut the lines leaving enough to loop a hose to each end. The problem is, getting a hose to fit both ends, seeing as how they are different sizes. Is it possible to just block the holes where the fluid is supposed to be looped? Or will that create too much pressure while steering?

allright, so the word from the honda specialists over at car-isma is that I can pinch all the lines and cap them. The name of the game is to make sure no dirt or moisture gets in the steering rack. Who would have thought it could be so simple as to blocking all the lines. Please learn from me if you're going to rip out your whole power steering system on your wagon. Thanks for any and all input guys.
