Ps to manual steering quick question

I've got a friend with a manual steering rack up for sale for next to nothing. I'm just about to pull my power steering and was going to just loop the fluid lines. But if i can make this work easily then i can shelf or sell a complete power steering setup.

so here's my question...

I've read that some parts don't fit when you go from manual to power. Something about a subframe or something of the sorts (sorry, not really sure how it all works under there, haven't really looked at it)

So are there other parts I'll need to pick up to make it work? If it's much of a hassle I'm prob not even gonna mess with it.

  • I think the non power steering subframe doesn't have enough clearance for the power steering rack. I intended on swapping a HF rack into my RT4wd but I sold it before I found a HF rack.

I'm doing this this weekend. However, I'm switching over the entire subframe.

It as simple as adding extra "bushing" around the top part of the rack on the passenger side (the power rack is larger diameter than the manual) and then using either the manual rack clamp with a small tab welded on to move the mounting hole out about 3/8" or use the power rack clamp and use a little more bushing material. Once you see it face to face, it'll be plainly apparent what you need to do. It's not tough whatsoever.

You cannot however use the manual steering subframe with the power steering rack. The notch that the rack sets into in the subframe is not big enough for the larger diameter power steering rack.
