Cold idle problem

Sometimes when I start my Wagon and then press on the gas after it's started, the RPM will stay there at the highest RPM that I pressed to. Even when I take off and go up to, say 3000RPM and get to the nearest light, it will be stuck on 3000RPM. This goes away after the engine is fully warmed up. Any ideas? :?

Oh ya...it's an '88 fuel injected.

Maybe your throttle cable is sticking until it gets more limber from the heat of the engine after warm up? See if you can pull back on the backside of the pedal and make it come back down. Try cleaning out the area in the intake around the throttle butterflies too, it can also stick there.

Sorry for the late reply..Been busy. I'll try these things this weekend and let you know how it went.
  • How is your coolant level? Is the system bled and free of air bubbles?
