Does Speedo read high on the wagons?

(I did try a search)

I was wondering if the wagons speedos read high. Or maybe I have the wrong tire size. Or maybe people were driving much faster than the limit...

I was driving home from Billings, MT today doing an indicated 70 and people were still creeping up on me like I was going too slow. The speed limit was 70 in Montana, and 65 in Wyoming. Tire size is 195/60 R14, I believe.

What do you think?

you were going too slow
  • lol, well I have too many tickets for one thing. And I like to take it easy on the wagon, it's got alot of miles. I'm older now so I just like to cruise.

Tyre size sounds most likely, i changed to 195/60/14 on the Civic Pro and had the same thing happen (only at motorway speeds) so i just drove a little faster. It was fairly accurate at 50km/h though.

Is this your first time driving in Montana? Remember when they didn't have a speed limit? They are crazy to say the least.
  • Naw, I go up there once a month for my drill weekends with the Navy Reserves. I've been doing it for 10 years now. Unfortuantely when they had no speed limit, I was on active duty, and did not get to try it out.

I thought stock tire size was 195/60 R14?
  • Here is a good calculator if you ever need to do any wheel/tire conversions to find out what your speed actually is: http://www.net-comber.com/tirecalc.html
  • Tirerack says stock tire size is 175/70 R14?

Stock for a USDM RT4WD is 175/70/14 and FWD is 175/70/13.

    JDM Shuttle RTi runs 185/65/14.

Your speedo will be out by about 2mph @ 60mph.
  • Well, that explains it then.
