I Guess Everyone is Making Tophats Now So Here's Mine

Custom Made Tophats. Ride quality has been well lets just say bad once I added the ground controls and tokico adjustables so I decided to try and make some tophats.

Started by seperating the top buckets.

Then Welded a 1 3/4 pipe between the buckets

Unfinished Product Compared to Stock. Not a huge difference but I think enough.

If you've separated the buckets like I think you did, you might have issues. The top and bottom cups need to be relatively close together, otherwise you won't be able to screw on the top nut. The step on the shock shaft is there to stop the shock going through the bushings, and the bottom washer that sits on that step. Then there's a prescribed amount of shock shaft that sits above that washer/step. You've now made it so the shock shaft can't extend far enough to reach the top bushing.

That is if you put these together the way I think you did.
  • Nice eye there! I actually used the top and welded a bottom section that would fit into the extended pipe thus keeping the "stock" setup on top. I even used all of the bushings and such.

I installed these yesterday and all I can say is WOW what a difference. I would say this was well worth the effort and time spent in creating these. I am glad I didnt go any bigger because these were just right and my plastic covers still fit.
