Storing wagon for a year. prep list?

I'm storing the wagon outside in a gated yard for 10 months - 1 year.

Hit me with your suggestions on things I should do to the wagon before I leave.

thanks.

Put a de-humidifier inside of the car, get the tires off the ground and remove the air from them, take the battery out and put it in a warm area or atleast a place thats not gunna sit below freezing all winter.

Drain all the fuel from the tank. If you have a set of crappy wheel/tires, then I suggest throwing those on as the sun/weather will destroy your tires and possibly the finish on aftermarket wheels. If you have some kind of tarp or tent to place over your car, then I would do that also to minimize sun damage to the paint and interior. Cover the interior with some old blankets to prevent sun damage. Disconnect the battery ground terminal to prevent draining it over time. I would also put a tray of D-CON or similar rat poison under hood somewhere. I have seen rats/mice make quick work of engine harnesses, hoses, etc. on vehicle stored outdoors for a long period of time. The D-CON works pretty good at controlling that problem.

my old boss always told me he would make sure the gas tank is toped off that way there wouldnt be any condensation in the gas tank but i dont think he stored his cars that long. also i just seen the other day on a horespower show they make this stuff in a can that you spray into your engine to prevent rusted internals.

that's probably a good point. i'll do that.

tires, i have 2 summers & 2 winters that need replacing so i think i'll throw those on there. I won't be able to put it on blocks because it's being stored in my bosses shop compound where it MIGHT need to be moved, hopefully not, but maybe. I think I'll just see if he can start it for me once every 3 months or so and let it run for a bit.
  • I covered one of my AE86's outside for a long period of time. Found that there was quite a bit of moisture caught underneath the tarp that was coming up from the ground. The tarp prevented any of the moisture from escaping. Had a bit of the same problem in one of my garages (the other two have treated concrete). The concrete wasn't treated and moisture came from that as well. Decided to order one of these this year for the long term storage. They also have some information about storage as well.
