CREEK! very loud and embarassing

The story:

when my wheel left or right i get a loud CREEEEEK from the driver side front. I also get it going over bumps at low speeds. It's quite loud, it has gotten a lot worse over the last week.

initially i thought it was the upper control arm bushings, i had someone giggle the wheel and it sure sounds like it's coming from directly behind the hub not from up high in the shock tower. i know my hearing is shot but not that shot. anyone else ever had a problem like this before i start randomly replacing stuff. I jacked the car up and took the wheel off to see if i could narrow it down, the noise stops when there is no load on it so it was pretty much a waste of time.

THANK YOU!!! keep my 464,000km work-horse running.

dry lower ball joint I bet. sometimes they might not have play in them but no grease at all then some rust and pow creeky squeak like your bed made when u were trying to bang your GF in HS hoping your parents didnt hear you from the living room.

well after spending about 2 hours under the FR side trying to locate the creeking, i am going back to my original thought of it being from the UCA bushings. It will have to wait until i get back from new zealand, along with the torn CV boot.

i had this issue a few days ago, looking for a quick fix and find exactly where it was coming from, i sprayed some quick lube gel out of a can (WD40) on my strut tower, and the noise magically went away!

....now i need to replace my front strut bushings.....

after some help from a friend, i narrowed it down to the lower ball joint. i took a screw and screwed it into the boot then backed the screw off, just to create a small, semi-self-sealing hole. then i pumped some grease into the hole and the noise went away. the joint also has a tiny bit of play. this is a VERY TEMPORARY fix. mainly just to last me another week until the car goes into storage. then i can change it when i get back.
