KYB AGX Struts

I just put a set of KYB AGX struts on the front of my car. For $166 shipped I can't really complain, they are new, and slightly adjustable. They are only adjustable for rebound dampening, and have 4 settings. Setting one feels about like stock struts, setting two feels about the same but you can tell the car responds better in turns. Setting three feels better than two but about the same in turns. Finally, setting four is about what I would want to start off as a baseline for a good amount of dampening for me. In the instructions it says "don't lower you car more than 1 and 1/4 inches." Mine is lowered about that much, and I'm about to make some extended top hats, so they will probably last for a while. That kind of sucks cause I won't have a good excuse to get real coilovers anytime soon. I need much more adjustability than these will give! I better start saving up for some KW coilovers.

Bottom line: Good as stock replacement, don't fool yourself into thinking they are the bee's knees just because they are adjustable. If you really like to drive your car hard, you will never take it off of setting four. Most good setups are 3 way adjustable for dampening!

  • Thanks for the review. I'm looking to put on a cheap set of rears struts until I splurge on some full coilovers. Were these the EF civic/crx type that you ordered or DA type?

just as a heads up, if you are ever looking for the best setup for our cars, and we can use eg coilovers in our ef's, the best hands down is Strange Engineering double adjustable coilovers, just make sure you order a spring thats an extra two inches long. (these are what we use in the car car)

^im the guy holding his ears and setting the data logging on the back of the car when its lining up to the tree..
  • I was just looking at the Koni STR.T as a temporary strut until full coils, but they were out of stock for the fronts, even from Koni. So I just ordered a set of Koni Red's, after their 25% discount.

Where did you get your AGX's for 166?

I was about to get those reds until I found these. I got them on amazon.com, one of them was $90 and one of them was $66, they both came from different companies.
  • I had no idea you could buy car parts on amazon. F.

Oh!!! You got them for the fronts only. Heh. I thought you got a set of 4 for 166.
