'91 Honda Civic Wagon DX 2WD- No Start

Alright here's what happened. I took my gf's wagon out of town (155 miles away) for 4 days to do my reserve weekend. My wagon was screwed up at the time because I fried the CPS and was getting a code 9.

Anyways, I drove it there, drove it around town for 4 days and it did fine. When I returned home, I was following somebody haulin booty about 80-85 mph. I got home and shut the car down. Next day, it won't start.

It's been sitting there for over a month now. I bought a used distributor thinking the dizzy had taken a crap, but checked spark today and it is there.. I'm assuming its not getting fuel.

Could the fuel filter be clogged up? Main Relay? Fuel pump?

Halp!

  • I think the main relay is working normally. Can hear the whirring up the fuel pump for a few seconds when key is turned to "on"

Edit: Fuel filter found. Gonna replace it tomorrow.

Where is the fuel filter located?

the fuel filter is underneath is in the engine compartment... and the fuel pump is underneath the car inside the fuel tank

    edit: opps hahaha...

Double check the clutch switch to make sure its plugged in, and make sure its adjusted properly!
  • 1 in a million chance on fuel pump dying! Honda fuel pumps are BULLETPROOF! Main relays go bad often, but never a HONDA fuel pump (I can't speak for aftermarket, but OE fuel pumps don't die on these cars.)

Also, just because it has spark doesn't meen the dizzy is flawless. Mine and some others have had the bearing get so hot that it melts the rotor and the head of the rotor twists and gets out of time. Car has spark, but will not start, usually backfires a little. Check your rotor and make sure it's not melted. (I was going to work on the freeway when mine just died and wouldn't restart, I thought it might be a t-belt until I got the cap off and saw the rotor, and it happened the exact same way on a friends 89 Integra)

Especially because code 9 is the crank/cyl sensor that is in the dizzy.....
  • Alright maybe I should just buy a brand new dizzy then.

The code 9 I was telling you about was in my wagon, not this one. This wagon is code free right now.

This wagon is an auto BTW udubrx7

Sounds like maybe you just need a new rotor? They are super cheap!

If it's an automatic, then I would say you should check the automatic transmission lockup solenoid, but if it's not throwing a code then there shouldn't be a problem there.

    Good luck!
  • The rotor gets melted when the dizzy bearings are shot, so putting a new rotor only would only fix it for a couple minutes.... it would melt again. Before buying a dizzy, pop the cap off (easy work) and look at the rotor.
  • Bah, I'm just going to buy a whole new dizzy from distributor king and be done with it. First I have to see if this new fuel filter does anything.

    Get it fixed?
  • No, been too lazy. ..and lost one of the banjo bolts as well.
  • leWolfleWolf Senior Wagonist
Which banjoe bolt? If i have one and you pay shipping it's yours!
  • The little one. I don't think it's totally lost yet. It's hiding somewhere on the car just out of sight.

I haven't broke the big banjo off yet. Too lazy right now. Reason is, the car doesn't get used a whole lot.

    Wanna sell it?
  • Actually, she wouldn't mind selling it.

It's pretty trashed though. I think we should keep it around. It's ugly but I've replaced a bunch of stuff on it so it should be reliable after I get it running again.

    price? =P
  • $750, but its a pretty trashed car.

I got it running again. I bit the bullet and bought a new dizzy off of distributor king on Ebay. Fuel filter is leaking though.
