Getting the auto trans into gear.

so i have an auto trans from a 89 wagon on the z6 in the wagon. the only problem i am having is that i cant get it to go in to gear when im trying to bolt up the trans cable. it seems like it is one gear off. any ideas? anything will help. (unless your a smart a** about it)

    make sure you have that little half box shaped piece of metal that bolts w/ 1 bolt onto the tranny. That holds the outside of cable steady. When I reinstalled my motor and tranny my gears were all off due to this one little bastard of a piece.

    Idk if thats your problem, but I hope it helps.
