Is there a way to restore the black plastic that has faded?

I'm asking about the molding in particular. Usually when I am done drying my vehicles off, I spray the black molding with tire foam, it seems to help.

Is there a better way though?

Duplicolor black for plastic trim works good, but it is semi gloss.
Or the best stuff is from a brand called SEM works awesome
    but its costly.

expect the duplicolor stuff to look faded again after about 2 years.
  • Ok, well what do you use then quarters?
  • hit it with a heat gun slowly the color will come back, but it will only work if its colored plastic not painted

i bought a tub of carlack68 plastic restorer.

didnt work that well, as my trims are too faded and mouldy, so im just going to spray them with hard wearing matt black rust0leum :P

Matt black looks odd on the mouldings, try a satin finish.

i find rust0leum matt is more a satin finish. the satin finish comes out like gloss.

Back to black looks decent once it'son the plastic for a few days, but at first it makes it look too shiny

I have heard of people using black shoe polish. I personally have never used it, but seems like a good idea although I'm not too sure how long it will last. Which is a big question. ha Hope you find something that works.

wizards black again gets my vote. i use it on my da once a year and it holds well. semi gloss finish but takes a bit of working it into the plastic. the first few uses just bring color back but after a few coats the hair line cracks reduce in size. I think it worth a shot. I havnt seen it for sale for a couple months. i not sure maybe it just a summer time thing.

I have used formula 2001 for years on many honda cars with good results. You just need to put it on pretty heavy and let it soak for a while before you wipe it off.

+1 for bumper coating, stuff works great and looks factory.

You can also try trim paint in the green can from autozone or kragen's.
