89 RT4WD Z6 Swap help!

I have a Z6 in my 89 RT4WD that i'm converting to OBD 1 and the motor cranks over and i have spark, but i'm not getting fuel because im not sure which connectors from the ecu connection are for the injectors(Ex: A1, A2, A3). I was wondering if anyone has a schematic for the ecu connector or has ran into this problem and can give me some info. PLEASE HELP ASAP! Thanks

  • I just got the car started and running, but its in limp mode cuz it cant pass 3 1/2 and the only codes i have are for V-tec(Cuz its not wired yet) and AT lockup because the motor and ecu are from an automatic. I'm thinking that since these are my only codes that it has to be the AT lockup puttin it in limp. Do you think that if i change the ecu to a manual trans p28 it will clear and take me out of limp?
  • Ok i re soldered the ecu so its manual now. Its no longer in limp mode, but as soon as i turn on the car the rpm spike and i have to turn the car off. Does anyone know what could cause this? TPS?
  • Are you still using the resister box? What injectors do you have in the motor? OBD1 or OBD0?

Make sure the idle screw isn't all the way out, and make sure the throttle plate isn't stuck open.

Here's a diagram from the mpfi swap info I accumulated. I'm pretty sure the injector wiring should be the same for the z6. All that stuff on the left is the injection wiring. That diagram is looking at the ecu plug from its backside, the side the wires go into, not the side that plugs into the ecu.

wouldn't it not run in the first place if he was still using the resistor box?

obd1 will not fire with the resistor box if i'm thinking right. It has to be 91 or later injectors without the resistor box. As for the spike I would definitely check your TB.

yes it will, the resistor box is only for the injectors that he is using. My wagon is convertd over to OBD1 as well and I kept my resistor box wired in to simplify things and just in case I wanted to turbo later on down the road. OBD0 and OBD1 injectors have the same flow rate but the obd0 injectors are peak and hold and the OBD1 injectors are saturated. So, if you have the injector box still wired in then you need to use the old injectors, if not then use the OBD1 injectors. It's much easier to change your injectors than the wiring.
  • See if this helps. Seems to be very detailed.
