i have a turbo already from something else. i want it to work so im gonna have some custom headers made with exhaust.

what else would i need to make it just run.
im not looking for massive power. i just happen to have an extra turbo and i wanted to use it. its a vf39 so i might be pertty large and has an internal wastegate and water and oil lines. i just dont know what precisely what else ill need. im hoping to be able to keep alot of the current stock parts to make it work like my stock injectors and stuff.

...start reading. They've made and documented most of the mistakes and have the whole DIY custom turbo thing down.

do i really need engine management for the turbo?

i was also thinking about getting a premade kit from alot of the companies out there.

Engine management is a real good idea at anything more than 5 psi.
Anything less can be tuned fairly safely with someting like a FMU regulator.

Premade kits are good...especially if you have no idea where to begin.
You should also consider legality since you are socal. Find a kit that has a BAR EO number.

    thanks alot devons

    what is a bar eo?
  • davensdavens familEE
    Sorry, CARB EO.
California Air Resources Board Exemption(or Executive?) Order

The only thing that will your modified car through inspection in cali...

i dont think there are any carb legal turbo kits out there. only supercharger. jackson racing kit carb legal.

I don't know about specific kits, but there are several manufacturers that focus on maintaining CARB EO compliant kits. Greddy being one.

I'm just saying its something you should consider, given where you live. It would suck to have to remove the turbo just to get it inspected once a year.

i looked on greddy's site but they didnt state they made a kit for the 1991 civic sohc engine.

How long is a piece of string? Your aim shouldn't be on power figures.
A dynograph isn't used for measuring power its used as a tuning aide. The power figures are negligable because they will vary from dyno to dyno.
