10 psi how mutch power ?

i want to run about 10 psi boost on my rt4wd wagon. how many hp will i be looking at in the engine then ? and will the original engine handle 10 psi ?

  • I think a better question is whether the trans & clutch will handle the 10 psi :)

If the motor is in decent working order, it should be able to handle the 10 psi with a good tune, and the right supporting gear.

-400+ lbs injectors (don't want to lean out)
-programmable ecu or piggy back controller (again, don't want to lean out)
-monitoring devices; air fuel guage, boost guage are a must

look into water / meth injection, that will help keep detonation down

Biggest thing is tune, i've heard of people being able to run 12-15 psi on stock internals, with ARP head studs on a great tune...

GL, and keep us updated :)

Oh, and to answer your question on the power: it really depends on the tune, timing and compression... i've heard 250 is not unlikely with a d16 @ 10psi
  • if it is a d16a6 or z6 yes it will my old turbo set up was a bone stock z6 with 450 injectors,t25 turbo, walbro 255, chrome gold chipped p26 and e bay innercooler. at around 13 psi i was making 215whp and 200tq (fun as fack!) giver hell! check out my thread i have pix of my whole build on like page 5 or around there.

oh and at 10psi you will not see 250hp unless its a huge turbo or built motor. imo but dudes right it is all in the tune oh also NO E BAY TURBOS!!!! yes the work but for how long is the question....

stock motor 10 psi dsm 450 i'd say 150 whp to 175whp it doesnt sound like alot but wait and see its fun as hell!

thanks !! ohh 150-175whp sounds fun like hell (7 months of snow)

my plan was to get an ebay kit and see how long the turbo holds and just change it to a proper one wen it's used up :P

the clutch will hold ! but as for the gearbox i have no idea  just have to wait and see

will i need to get an half size radiator ?
  • you'll need a clutch, and no i just got rid of the ac fan and cut the coresuport you can run the stock radiator. did you check my thread?

Thanks for the clarification... my current wagon is the first ef i've had, this being the 4th ef i've owned, that had a d-series in it :P

The numbers i posted were simply what i've seen claimed...

Great to have first hand figures :)

yes checked your thread after i posted the last one :P

    i already got a 6puk street/race clutch so that's not the week link 8)

the tranny will take it my old RT was running about 14lbs on a lil ebay t3 for about 8 or 9 months i beat it down lots of boosted launches and the motor and tranny never gave out. took the kit off only to put in on my CRX and my tranny took a dump on me about 4 months later from some wheel hoppin in snow and not lettin out..... rt's boosted are so dam fun i would get my hands on some vittara pistons, z6 head, t3/t4oe, tubular log mani, obd1 swap running crome, injectors, fuel pump, wideband, and a good tune. lots of good info above this post from other members as well either way should be tons of fun!

It also depends on what kind of turbo you're using. Different turbos make different hp and tq numbers at the same psig (psi @ sealevel), a lot of people really don't realize how important it is to have exactly the right turbo for the engine.
  • Would this do...???

imo if your doing a budget build dont need to do anything to the motor , just do a comression check, no pistons no wideband no problem! if it is a rt4wd do a stock dsm turbo, they facking rip out of the whole and hit full boost at like 2200rpms!!! its like having a built supercharger motor! my best time on the stock d16z6 dsm turbo on 14ish psi did a 13.82 @ 102mph using lunch control aka two step. not bad!!!!

    8) cool guys thanx for the little tid bit of info....

im searching the forum to find a turbo manifold or a kit that will allow me to still run my A/c and power steering with Turbo..
have been reading people delete them so the turbo will fit ..
  • HKS or Greddy for a T25 fitment and then swap the turbo 180 so intake on drivers side (LHD) and much bigger turbos clear the block and AC.
