My clutch pedal is really stiff

and has been stiff since i put a donor motor/tranny combo in my wagon about 5 years/100,000kms ago. since then i have broken a pedal box (clutch pivot snapped) and 2 cables that became very squeaky and worn in a short amount of time.

When i was given this combo, i was told it was a fresh rebuild. but had no history of clutch/trans. he was a bit of a racer kid so is it possible that this is a racing clutch and that's why it is so stiff. to be honest, this clutch is amazing other than the stiffness. i've been going up and down the hills in this town for years and it never ever slips, the release bearing has always made a slight squeal from 1st - 2nd shifts if done improperly. any thoughts?

  • Probably an aftermarket/performance pressure plate. If you want to, you can pull the starter out and see what the pressure plate cover looks like. Most performance units are usually painted some noticeably different color.
