89 accord front shock ?

I know you can use the 89 accord front shocks and gain a little travel in the suspension because the shock body is actually shorter. How low can you go with this shock in stock form, before you need a aftermarket shock. I'm just looking at different options for low with the best ride-close to stock. Has anyone here tried this? I have seen a guy on efhonda.com do this to a hatch and claims the ride is great. His car is on the ground, even made a skid plate. He also has extended tophats. Thanks for the help.
