Do the japanese Hate us?

Or is it the us just wont let them send all of the cool stuff here. You cant tell me that if sir civics were made available here that they wouldnt sell. Or how about type-r ek's What I wouldn't give for one. As you may know I have the tracked wagon and I would love to have some of the jdm stuff they got elsewhere but lets face it Not worth what I am going to have to spend to get it. I also have a 91 ef hatch with a b20 vtec and would love to do a sir converson. I just dont see why we did'nt get them. A civic with a factory b16 You know they would have sold!!! Oh well I guess I just needed to vent!!!

AFAIK the american market did not desire such cars at the time. Hindsight is 20/20.
  • Plus some things wouldn't pass US safety standards like the rear seats in the JDM CRXs for example.
  • A 88-91 Civic B16 would sell in the US now, but not in 88-91. Thats the problem, I definitely was not in the market for Crx Sir when I was 10 or 11 but maybe there was a small demand for them. Its like the 1st gen Mugen body Crx's, thats the holy grail to many, many people but there was very little demand for it so Mugen drifted from the USDM arena.
  • Ya, i agree with not wanting an 88-91 in 88-91 but wanting one now. It's like those Smart Cars. I don't want one now but ask me again 20 years from now and, well, I'll probably still NOT want one. Sorry. Bad example...
  • Perhaps its all a grand scheme conspiracy to keep Ricers from taking over?

They don't sell the nice stuff new because the new buyers are too young to afford or don't need sport car. People with money will get a reall sport coupe, not a ricer car with a big engine. And anyways, now (in Canada at least, not usa) we can have all the old jdm cars (15+ years) for dirt cheap. I got my turbo mr2 for 6k$.
  • I think they're still pissed about that whole Hiroshima and Nagasaki thing.

It's like come on, let the past be the past and just give us some cool freakin cars already!

We get most of the cool Hondas here in Germany and I can also drive to the UK and buy any of the Japanese cars at a fraction of the US inflated prices.

People like to forget that we had a couple B16 Civics-

EM1- which sold well, and was stolen even better... (had one of these new myself, my favorite car ever btw... my insurance was as expensive as my car payment, with minimal infractions)

And the first- del Sol, which sold like shit, and stolen easier than the EM1

Look what happened after 99 with the EM1... the scene BLEW THE FUCK UP (won't credit just that car, but the timing was perfect). And then look what happened after Subaru brought the WRX over. Remember the first electric car by GM? They thought no one would buy it, so they bought Hummer and created the H2. We all know where this is going...

Is it too much to ask for a Toyota Hilux? I'd probably give up Honda's if I could have one like the Top Gear North Pole Hilux's lol

You'd hate me if you saw my friends Hilux... and his M.A.N truck... and his other Hilux..
  • Wait :!: :!: There was a B-series Del Sol sold in the US, I thought is was just the D-series VTEC.

Yupp. I forgot what year. Maybe 97 and up or 98. Forgot, but it did come with a B16.

I tend to agree with doitdub.Germany gets the cars 'cuz they were partners during WWII.Not even UK gets all the cool cars. The closest USDM got to getting a cool car was the ITR(DC2).They even screwed with Australia .They got the ITR name, but all it was was a Acura RSX type S with the ITR name tag.  NO Brembos....NO Recaros...No ITR engine....NO LSD.

The other reason is the Japanese pride thing. They want to keep the best in the homeland.Even Mazda does it with the Miata & RX-7.

I think 95 usdm del sols had a b16.. the only donor car to get a p30 ecu to legally bar any obd1 here in california.. really rare..

NZ got pretty gay models as well, the difference is the majority of our cars have since been Imported from Japan. Seriously, probably at least every second car you see on NZ roads is a secondhand Japanese Import.

NZDM cars were very similar to USDM cars, bsae model and generally always carburetted. There were a few of the better models sold (DOHC VTEC) but they were detuned models with less power than the Japanese models.
