Smoke?

Ok, so after cruising in stop and go traffic for about 25 minutes I discover the traffic jam was caused by a stalled vehicle in thr middle lane ( my lane). I look left, car. I look right, small gap. I punch it. After passing said stalled vehicle I look behind me to find a 007 size smoke screen. After driving a while more I tried punching it again to recreate the smoke screen, nothing. Occasionaly after coasting in gear, at temp for a while, if I gas it she blows smoke for a bit.

Question, do I need a new motor? Or is there some maintenance issues I should address? PCV.

FYI. 1991 RT4WD, 160K mi, 100 miles on oil change, 10W30.

Also the smoke is bluish in color. And there is some oil on my number 3 spark plug wire.

Have you removed the valve cover recently? Sounds like oil is bypassing one of the sparkplug hole seals.

No. I just bought the car two weeks ago. It seems that the maintenance may be behind on it. Waitin for a chance to do a timing belt and valve adjustment. So I guess i'll do spark plug seals as well.

So you dont think the PCV could cause the smoke? Or is that a newb question.

Buy a full valve cover gasket replacement kit and it should come with the spark plug seals.
  • downshifting or 1st gear...

what colour was the smoke more importantly??

could be a few things..... stem seals, piston rings.... or as said, rocker/plug seals

lol i have the same issue. and its cyl 3 that that has oil in it too for me all the time, too

anyway.. blue smoke = burning oil.

Do what Haydz said, see if that works. if it was you motor leaking oil from the inside (like past the rings) it would be smoking every time you punch it.

Just did the valve cover and plug seals today. I dont know yet about the smoke but the guy at honda was saying that it could also be the lower plug tube seals, and after a brief explanation of how to do it i decided to just stick to the upper.

did that clear up the smoke problem.. :?:

100 miles after oil change, did you check the oil level? if the crankcase is overfilled it could cause it to consume oil.

Pretty old post! For what its worth every 88-91 honda 4 cylinder that i've ever had the pleasure of working on had problems with the lower plug tube seals leaking... most of the time on the #3 cylinder! Weird shit. Those suck to change too.
