y8 swap

i might be able to get a FULL y8 swap to replace my d15. idk if i should do it or not? some1 told me y8's are known to end up having rod knocks due to bad oil pumps. but id only be paying $200 for the whole setup. i kind of want to do it just to have some more power and vtec, but im not sure. any1 want to give me there input on the situation? thanks :)

Well is your current civic mpfi? because if it is, it would make the swap easier. I once had a y7 motor in my civic, the only weird part was the drivers engine mount bracket was different (you need to keep the original bracket) and I had the cut the timing cover to make work.
The y7 gave me no problems and I felt it ran a little stronger.

mine is a dual point but i have everything for the multipoint. my motor has 200k miles and i dnt remember how many the y7 has but i know its coming out of a 99 civic so alot less than mine probably. plus it has vtecs
  • buddy of mine put a y8 in his RT recently, no problems. Iv seen many y8s go pass 200K easily
  • y series, not just y8s are known for their oil pump problems. But for 200$ I wouldn't worry so much about it. You can always install an oil pressure gauge and keep an eye on it. Another option would be to spec out the pump before installing the engine, that'll require a little bit of disassembly though.
  • they (y8,y7,y6) usually starve cylinder 4 of oil when they have the rod knock. something to do with the size of the oil ports. it is a known problem but almost all motors have "known" probems. for $200 i wouldn't worry about it. you'll get a lil more torque, and about 30 or so more horses for only that lil amout of cash.
