Axle Help!!!

I am changing out my driver side axle on my 89 2wd and I cannot get it to seat correctly in the transmission. It goes in fine if I take the retaining clip off but it slides out of the tranny too easily. I could really use some help.

  • As long as the clip isn't chewed up at all, and centers itself properly, all it takes is a good shove to get it to seat correctly. Use some heavy thick grease on the end of the shaft to keep the clip nicely centered, and insert it carefully while lying under the car. Once the end of the axle is inserted as far as possible, swing out to the side of the car, line the axle up in a nice stright line and give it a good shove. It should pop in to the diff, and be properly locked in at that point.
  • I will go give that a try. Thanks a ton.

Sometimes if they're hard to seat, I'll use my foot shove them in.
  • Worked great. I was being to gentle with my shaft lol.

Ya, most everyone here will tell you you can beat on your shaft quite hard and not to be too gentle with it. A happy ending for everyone!

    LOL!!!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist!
