Help me decide: Fix D Ninja or go Bseries

Right then, I have a bit of a Dilemma.

Today the thrust bearing in my gearbox imploded and so now makes a terrible noise however is still useable (im not going to trust it)

I was planning on coverting to B16a Middle of next year, however with this happening is it really worth pulling it all apart and fixing it only to pull it all out in 6months time?

I can do all the work myself and can probably do the sway for around $1500NZ, so far all I have for a B swap is EF8 Front knuckles and Brakes.

I figure the list for a Bswap is as follows (please inform me if ive missed something):
-B16a Engine($300)
-Cable B series gearbox($500)
-Engine Mounts (do Yonaka make these mounts still?)($500)
-EF8/9 Shift Linkages (do DA6 linkages work?)($200)
-EF8/9 Driveshafts($200)
-OBD0 ECU($150)
-Wires for Vtec Solenoid, 2nd Oxy Sensor and .........($0)
-Swap to EF8/9 Cluster to run VSS as apposed to Speedo Cable($100)
-Headers with 2x Oxy sensors($cheap)
-Misc other little bits

What would you guys do? B16a will stay essentially stock, just little bits like ITR throttle body, ITR intake etc etc that I have lying around

  • Is your wagon 2wd or 4wd?
  • Sorry its a 2wd EF3, so already fuel injected etc

Damn, this whole time I thought your car was 4wd. Got excited when I started reading about a B swap.

    Good luck. Keep us posted!

Haha im hoping for a quick easy swap, I need this car going for summer! So if its gunna happen its gunna happen in the next month.

I may have scored a B16a Block for free, just needs a hone and some new rings, was rebuilt 10,000ks ago but rings didnt bed in properly, have also emailed a couple places asking about a DA halfcut etc, trying to keep costs down as XMAS is coming up etc
  • Bit of an Update for those interested.

Have sorted a full B16a Conversion out of a DA6 Integra from Strong For Honda, and am just sorting some Innovative Mounts.

Now just need to order, cambelt, water pump, front wheel bearings, Brake Discs, Clutch and fluids.

Hopefully will all be running by Xmas
  • That sounds like a fun swap keep us updated and take some pics of your swap
  • yeah, dont give me aypatch a purpose...

  • I will update my build thread during the swap, motor/gearbox etc should all arrive next week, will get that all ready to throw in, then just a matter of waiting for the mounts to arrive then it will be all go :D

Sweet. GL with swap they are fun I've done lots and lots of ef b swap! Always exciting!!
  • I would also recommend replacing the timing belt tensioner while doing the timing belt and water pump. I have seen these go bad(noisy) on a couple of swaps. Just a suggestion. Good luck on the swap!

Cheers I have a good mate helping me who has done a lot of this stuff, had a EF9 himself with a B16a with B16b pistons etc, now has a DC2R. Also have my old man helping who is a fitter by trade. With me being a sparky I think we have all bases covered.

Cheers, yep I have that on my list, all seals that can be replaced without pulling the motor down will be as well as everything else that can be whilst I have the motor on the floor, I dont plan on pulling it out again!

Plan for the swap is to rip into it Friday afternoon after work and have the Dseries out either that night or early saturday, B16a in and running by Sunday afternoon. Then between Xmas and New years I have time off work, so will move the battery to the boot, tidy up the wiring and give everything a general tidy up.
The goal is to eventually create a JDM SIR version of the shuttle, much the same as a EF8/9 Civic but the Shuttle version, however that will take time as this is already pushing my budget to its limits, I have BEER TO BUY FOR SUMMER!!!! But this has to be going as I cant transport my Kayaks with the Integra and the Integra cant get to our holiday house, I have motivation!
  • Change of plan, am now swapping in an OBD0 converted B18c, still has the OBD1 Intake manifold but the secondaries have been removed/locked up
  • damn, take some pics. after i get back to work (on workmans comp hurt right now) id like to get rid of the supercharged single cam i got and maybe go to a twin cam as well. iam going to keep an eye on this thead and good luck.
