Dual Point Powerband (sounds like VTEC)

so my wagon has the stock D15B 1.5 DPFI motor, well from 2nd gear on, when pressing the throttle (even if you press it all the way to the floor) the rpms steadily go up at a slow speed, but once it gets to 3,000rpms the car gets louder and the revs go faster, exactly like when VTEC engages, but i know for sure that i dont have VTEC. me and my friends always joke and call it VTAK. Because it clearly sounds like it. anyone know what this is??

I'm guessing its some fuel economy thing. but it'd be nice to know what it really is

my friends DPFI used to do the same thing as soon as he installed a CAI.
it was really funny, and fun of course.

not sure what or why it happened though
  • i have a cold air too! idk lol its funny because my flexpipe has a hole in it, so it sounds hella boosted, so that +the faux VTEC, me and my friends have alot of jokes. and people are actually intimidated

back in high school i had a similar noise it sounded like a b16 but moved like a snail....

All Hondas have similar induction noise when you add an intake arm and pod filter.

On the carbied versions they sometimes have a secondary ont he carb and that makes the same effect.
  • haha still no actual reason or what it does?

Are you sure you're not smokin something? lol

Seriously though, think about your powerband. It's gonna sound and feel different because you're reaching your maximum power (here's where I could low ball your hp, but I won't lol) If you had it on a dyno it would probably jump up. Especially with an intake.
  • it did it before and after the intake, these dudes know what i mean, i should video it. my car prob has 90 hp if that
  • ive had two that have done it.....just a k and n drop in.....idk wtf it is
  • yea mine does the same. its painfully weak up until i hit 3k rpms... then its bearable... haha
