OIL light stays on

I have a d15z1 in the rt4wd, and I am getting a OIL light that only appears when I first start the car. It'll stay on for a 15 seconds or so and then goes away and doesn't come back.

Also, if I take a corner too fast it'll cause the Vtec oil psi CEL to come on.

Something I didn't do when I did the swap was transfer over the Oil pickup. I know I need to eventually (doing a gasket rebuild on a spare d15z1 that will be going in in a month). I am not blaming the oil pickup because I would believe it would cause problems all the time, not just at start up.

I did notice excessive oil caking on the oil pump. So I'm thinking that may be going bad. The other possibility is that the sealant I put on the Oil PSI sensor on the back was too much, or that the sensor is from the wrong year.

any thoughts??

No, its near the bolt where it has the pressure relief valve for the oil pump.
  • im having this same issue but only after the car has sat for 4 hours or more. its the worst in the morning when i leave for work. i just did a z6 swap and didnt swap over the pickup from the old A6, and i as reading a thread from d-series.org that you should match the oil pickup to the oil pan.

i just replaced my oil pump also to try and fix this problem and it didnt help.

i noticed there is a difference between the a6 and z6 oil pan baffling as well as that the oil pickups have different part numbers. im going to be swapping in the a6 pickup tomorrow to see if this fixes the problem.
  • FIXED!!!!! oil pickup was sucking the floor of the pan creating a vacuum and causing oil starvation.

word to the wise, match the oil pickup to the pan! i hope this saves a lot of unnecessary work and headaches. cause i sure had a doosey of a time figuring this out.

I was actually aware of that. When I put in my rebuilt d15z1 I saved the a6 oil pickup.

I believe my previous d15z1 needs a rebuild.
  • I learned this the hard way when I had to put in a d15b7 block. I also learned the transfer case was in the way of the pan.
