i was givin a 1981 civic it has som problems first it idels fine but when i go to drive it in first it stsrts to studder about 20 mph then i shift to 2 and it studders at 30 mph. so i poked around a bit did not find anything major i was thinking vacume or somthing ,so i advanced to timing and it bett but know it doesnt want to idel. does anybody have any idea where i should start to fix this problem, and also where should the timming be set at with a timming light. any help will help me

    How long has it been sitting? Check fuel quality?

    Check for corrosion under the distributor cap?

    It's unlikely that timing is the issue- why would it have moved?

    i noticed the lock down screw on dist. was loose . im gona drain the fuel and use some carb cleanr ,any other suggestions
