Going to buy an 87 TR-4wd wagon, question.

Hi, yesterday I went to see an 87 4wd wagn, 225 000km, a bit f rust but nothing really bad fr the year and country (canada), I did no try the awd system but will bring it to a mechanic in 2 days, to check everything. However, the guy told me the cardans (u joints) are gone and it makes noise when you turn. I saw U joint fr rear cause problem to change (change the whole driveshaft or something like that), but this is for the rear? Is the problem I talk about (front u joints and nise when you turn) is a different problem and easier to fix? also the rear drums are not working great, is it expensive to change/rebuild them?

And I would like to do some ice rallye with it (i don't care if i'm slow, not for competition) is it possible or the car is too bad for this? I know it doesn't have an lsd, is it a must for ice rallye or stuff like that? I live in Canada.
Thanks.

I've seen some people here on this forum that ice race their wagons.

Expensive, inexpensive, all depends on where you buy yours parts. A car this old is going to need a little love, so if you aren't prepared to do some work and spend some money you might want to look elsewhere.
