Exhaust question

Will the Civic/CRX/Civic Hatchback exhaust fit on the Wagon? I'm getting sick of the loudness of my exhaust, and would like to get a nice cat back system or something.

Does anyone know any good/cheap brands that will make is sound good without sounding like an annoying buzzin bee? Thanks

I don't know if a Civic/CRX exhaust system will fit, but my gut reaction is "No."

You could have a system custom fabricated for a pretty reasonable price at a muffler shop.

I like to buy my own components so I know the results are going to be worth the trouble. Once you figure diameter out, you'll need:

Resonator...nothing fancy. You can even use straight-through bullet style mufflers like Cherrybombs ($15-20).

Muffler...something high quality, stainless with at least two chambers. I got a brand new Borla off Ebay for like $75 shipped.

Tip(s)...to take one last opportunity to silence any harsh noises, I like using resonated tips. Check Jegs or Summit ($15-25)

Mandrel bent elbows...most small, local muffler shops won't have a mandrel bending machine or the pre fab elbows. So buy a couple 90 degree or even 180 degree pieces from Jegs/Summit. Or you can skip this and just let them crush bend the tubing.

After you lay all theses parts out and the local guys just need to weld them together, I wouldn't spend more than $150 for the labor(2 hrs).

I remember on the old forum someone tried fitting up a cat-back for a sedan and it didn't fit but was pretty damn close.
As Davens said, best bet would be to get one custom made - that way you get exactly what you want.

well i was thinking with a hatch or sedan maybe you could just add a few inches between the cat and the rest ... at least the rear with the bends might work

Over the Trailing arm for 2wd, YES.

Before the trailing arm, NO. You could just go to a custom exhaust shop and have pipe made to fit your need.

Would you like me to make you one? If so let me know what type of material you want, size piping, if you want a cat, resonator, ect.?

Ill do it cheap for you and follow all factory bands.

Well I was wanting more power, this little SOHC needs all the help it can get. I was looking at some full systems for the Civic/CRX and they looked super nice. How much would you charge to make one for me? Is the tubing mandrel bent? I would like it to go through the rear crossmember and out the left side like stock, without all the 90 degree bends that the stock muffler has.
It just seems that a straight exhaust system would flow better than one that has a bunch of 90 degree angles in it.

I was looking at something like this:

It seems to have everything in it that I would need, just bolt up and go.
  • If I had a donor wagon, or a donor stock oem wagon exhaust, I can make a kit for you guys.

If you look in the members rides you will see what I just did with my exhaust. I got rid of all the 90 bends and went straight through out the passenger side. Take the muffler off and cut the flange off the middle pipe on the end. Then just weld on a nice stainless muffler from there. Cost me 20 for the muffler, and 10 for the reducer. Careful which muffler you get or you will have that loud sound all over again. My .2 cents.

Don't knock the ugly weld. I really didn't want to post this pic but it shows where I cut the exhaust to weld on the new muffler. I don't think it turned out that bad considering it was my first weld job. At least no leaks. I still have to weld on a hanger so I can get rid of that rigged hanger I put on there.

  • RSR claims they have a quieter exhaust system..anyone know more about this particular exhaust than what they've posted?
