Well, i got the powerplant dropped back in.

    141.jpg

look at the hotspots on this flywheel and cover

    142.jpg

that clutch was a bit too aggressive for my application. I'm trying a heavy duty organic disc with the same double-sprung pressure plate. Need a little slip to get those big tires moving.
  • 3rd4ce3rd4ce Council Member
Bam but i thought the slipping of a clutch would be a bad thing ....
    :(
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
There's always some slippage as you engage the clutch to start moving. That metallic puck clutch is designed to make that slippage happen at the tires! As I said, just a bit too aggressive. Since I had to buy another disc anyway, figured I'd mix and match.

Glad to see you are making progress to getting her back up and runnin :encouragement:

Bam i am not thinking with those big tires Goldie has much slippage @ the ground... LoL

I was gonna do a heavy duty set up from ACT.... but now I'm rethinking getting the whole 1988 civic set and might try to find the accord mix and get a bigger fly wheel .....
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
Oh, I can make tires smoke at will! Daily driving just ain't like that, though.

FWIW, Chip, the flywheel is the same size and mass, just the clutch disc has a smaller contact area. You will probably not notice the difference.

    It's aliiive!!

this picture was taken yesterday on a hundred-dollar test drive. About two minutes after the photo stop, I cut the sidewall out of my left steer tire.

    BAM
glad to see Goldie rolling again .... :encouragement:

sorry to hear of the sidewall getting damaged ... i dont see the spare on the roof but im sure it was in the trunk with that COOL double welded jack..!
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
Oh yeah! That jack was a little scary in the dirt, though.
  • i dont know much on RT. trans but when i did my clutch swap on my 88 hatch i used a 91 clutch kit and used a 93 fly wheel i had laying around .

as for aggressive tires . look in to bobcat tires there 15 inch rims and you can get them up to a 33
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
Yeah, the D flywheels are interchangeable from '90-2000. The issue was getting a disc to fit the smaller shaft '88 and still use the larger diameter flywheel/pressure plate.

As far as Bobcat tires- aren't they heavy?

looks like you might be in for a hi-lift jack.

Met wadodizzle's sister to hand off a transmission that needed to go south yesterday.

haven't had a chance before to compare side by side.
Funny, as she pulled into the lot she called and asked what I was driving, then said "Oh. I should've known when I saw that car. "

    Bam
I like that side by side .... i couldnt imagine the towering over if the warrior basket and spare tire was on top...

nips my wanting another Rt4wd CRv n the bud.....!!!!!!!
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
I lifted it a tad this evening, too. Mostly by correcting the camber issues in the rear, see how it squats in the pic?
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
You know, after a suspension change, you have to go drive it to settle everything, right?

    429.jpg

camber is pretty near neutral now, depending on how you park. The suspension is so compliant for articulation that it's hard to get the same reading twice.

    430.jpg

It does drive a lot straighter now!

I need a recommendation for the most robust adjustable upper control arms and toe compensator links. Who makes the good stuff?
I used 1/2"-13 nuts for spacers and did the old "washer trick", but it was a pain. I'd like to be able to tune on it. Besides, those are the only bushings left that aren't urethane.
  • ChaifeChaife Instagram grand master
These, SPC. They are the heaviest I've found. I bet these rip the tabs out of the shell before they break..
Toe Link. (Has solid billet bushings)

    Camber Link. (BEEF)

Bam like your testing style of the adjustment on suspension ...... I'm on my phone or I would find pictures and names of the front upper control arm and them toe and camber I used on rear of Scrappy ...
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
I know what to use now. The specialists at Circle Track Imports helped me out.
  • GR33KGR33K Wagonist
I am going to get those SPC toe links. Did you feel any difference?

Anyways, Wagon looks great! Put the basket back on!
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
I haven't gotten them yet, but just shimming the UCAs made a world of difference. The rack and basket will go back on shortly. I had to borrow pieces for the camper for vacationing. I'm looking for longer load bars now, so I can put the bike trays outboard of the basket.

Almost buried the old girl yesterday. That hole is deeper than it looked!

    474.jpg

But I made it out ok.

I love the pic of the wagon out-sizing the CRV!

    And the Mudding/Off-Road Pics are CLASSIC ! ! !

Hopefully when mine gets finished, I can chase you through the woods... And, not get stuck in your Ruts... LOL

I also want to get at least one of my bumpers built, though. I'd have to clean up for that.
  • rbwdrivenrbwdriven Senior Wagonist
just wash the front where you need to mount/ fab the bumper.

yeah that seems ok since he will need clean bare metal for his Fab work ....

but then the fun part .....
rbwdriven we both know he will have to mud match it to look right for IA .... hope i can get there early enough to get some of that off road fun time ..... with Scrappy .. (fingers crossed):encouragement:
