I'd like to make it swing out to the side like other SUVs. That will require building a new rear bumper or modifying the current one, but right now the front bumper job has priority.
Riiiight...
Not a lot of visible progress. Sits more level now.
Bought and refinished some Aerostar roof rails this weekend. By bending them I was able to use the full length.
And have been trying to come up with a decent set of headlights from the ten assorted junk ones I have. Also have been working on getting emissions test sorted so it can get street-legal.
They are exactly the same as "factory" just longer. All were dealer installed accessories. I just like the longer rails to give me more placement options.

I recently extended the rails on my rack, It made a world of difference as far as the range of adjustment.
i have been thinking about this for a while. the issue there is not a really a way to mount it on the hatch.
i ran the mount tire on hatch around and there is a spare tire mount in the junkyard from a Kia Sportage i think it was a large U shaped that could be mounted above and below the licence plate area and work well to hold the tire ... but i wasnt sure if the weight would stay up on the struts or would i need a ghetto broom stick MODIFICATION
BAM: Goldie is looking great .... cant wait to see in person...!!

There's no way the stock gas struts would support a spare especially one the size of Golde's. Probably could find ones that could do the job but it'd be a bitch to close if the spare wasn't mounted. And unlatching it standing out back would be dangerous!
Has taken me a while to read up on your build. Havent had the time to research your others, but u are def a pioneer and one hell of an innovator in the wagon world. I def need to hook up with you in the near future...especially since we are right around the corner from each other. I will be updating my own build thread this eventing and posting again (since I had multiple pending posts lost with the site update) and putting together a "want" list before hitting yards. That is, if yall have left anything in the local yards...sounds like I just need to hit up your place! Anyway, nice work on your 4wd beast and I look forward to meeting up with you and the other N Atlanta members in the near future. Keep up the good work!
Mounted the roof rack today. Harbor Freight tool and inserts worked well, I recommend them
For $16.99 you get the tool and enough inserts (10) to do the job.
I guess you can tell I've been after the lights and bumper. I'm a little frustrated. Spent hours building up headlight assemblies to fit the 88-89 corners, then realized that I don't have both screw-type lights! Dammit.
At least the ass-end isn't lower any more!
I'm shopping for the extension to the roof basket. Still playing with placement there
It's a mailbox. The blue hose and clamps are from an International 9400i radiator, the steel tube is a section of a Freightliner FLD coolant tube, and the rubber edging is from a wagon rear fender arch.
