Battery Tray is Rusted. What have you done?

Hi Guys, in an effort to get my car running I'm overhauling the entire engine bay essentially (Machining the Head, Water Pump, Alternator, Starter, etc, etc). But one thing i noticed after removing the battery is that the tray underneath is rusting through. Furthermore the 'tray' seems welded to the frame of the car. I assume battery acid must have leaked on the metal some time in the past... FTL.... Barring a simple wash/spray with anti-rust paint, what have people done here? Given our cars are 20 years old I can't believe i'm the only one with this problem.

I removed the tray and relocated the battery to the boot. :)

Simple bolt off or did you have to cut and grind? Where did you re-locate it too? And where'd you run the wires? I'm familiar on how to do this on my Evo, but i'm wondering what you tie it down to. Pics Pls :D

No pics, havn't had the wagon for about two years now. The tray unbolted and i ran the cable through the closest grommit i could find in the firewall. I secured a battery box in the boot by having a metal plate inside the bottom of the box which was bolted through to the car body below.

The battery tray does unbolt. IIRC, there's one bolt thru the bottom, one thru the trans. mount ear, and one into the apron/'frame' under the battery tray.
